What If…? Donald Duck Became Iron Man

A mash-up of Disney and Marvel under the What If…? banner offers us a look at Donald Duck becoming Iron Man, er, Iron Duck! The film sort of follows the basic premise of 2008’s Iron Man with Donald, in possession of plans for Gyro Gearloose‘s various inventions, is kidnapped by villains who want him to build it for them. Keeping with Scrooge McDuck part of the story, the villains we’re given are the Beagle Boys who have dreams of riches  using Gyro’s new drill which they want to use to drill into Scrooge’s vault.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter – And the Dance of Doom

Following the premiere, the first episode with no crossover from previous Librarian movies or shows gives us Vikram Chamberlain (Callum McGowan) leading the team to the opera where the rosin on a pair of opera shoes have put the lead dancer in the hospital. Discovering this is all the work of a witch, the group splits up until her identity is revealed with Lysa (Olivia Morris) and Connor (Bluey Robinson) distracting the witch (Arielle Dombasle) while Vikram makes a small but vital change to the ballet’s performance that prevents the ritual from completing and turning the magic back on the witch to the stunned audience (who I guess thought it was all part of the show?).

The Phoenician Scheme

You know going into a Wes Anderson film it will look great, and in that aspect The Phoenician Scheme doesn’t disappoint. Incredibly designed sets and styles match a wacky tale of a businessman Zsa-zsa Korda (Benicio Del Toro) who is of note for two reasons. First, under attack from a shadowy group (which may or may not be tied to the government?) crippling his business by inflating the cost of materials vital to the job’s completion, Korda is attempting to salvage the biggest deal of his career. And second, everyone wants him dead, so much so that unexpected plane crashes due to bombs smuggled onboard his plane are a common occurrence.

Dogma

Returning to theaters for the film’s 25th anniversary, writer/director Kevin Smith‘s Dogma stars Linda Fiorentino as an apathetic Catholic who is chosen by the angel Metatron (Alan Rickman) to prevent two angels from entering a church in New Jersey which, because of a little known loophole in Catholic dogma, would put all of reality at risk. All of this is actually the plan of the demon Azrael (Jason Lee) who has put these events in motion as he would rather destroy reality than return to Hell.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter – And the Deadly Drekavac

  • Title: The Librarians: The Next Chapter – And the Deadly Drekavac

Adding yet another Librarian wouldn’t be my first choice for improving The Librarians (which already has a few too many characters by that name). However, the opening episode of The Librarians: The Next Chapter offers an intriguing argument for just that when introducing a Librarian from the past, Vikram Chamberlain (Callum McGowan), pulled into present day. A bit too fond of magic, Vikram was caught in a time bubble for centuries before being freed by Stone (Christian Kane). While Stone deals with a magical rupture Vikram created, the Librarian from the past heads off with some companions to capture a lonely soul possessed by a demon (also released thanks to the elder Librarian).
