“You’re suggesting that we identify and then solve an unknown murder that an expert hitman got away with four years ago?”

Elementary - Breathe television review

Unable to prove their suspect, a drug company owner who has made a career of buying life-saving drugs cheap before jacking up the price for a tidy profit, was responsible for the recent poisoning of a hitman, Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) set out to discover who their suspect hired the hitman to kill four years ago. Surprised to discover that their suspect did indeed kill a scientist, but didn’t use their victim to do so, the detectives follow the breadcrumbs left by the poison victim to find the truth and discover why a man whose life had been spent killing others for money would commit the most selfless act possible.

Charlie’s Angels #2

Charlie's Angels #2 comic reviewThe comic’s opening arc continues with Charlie being attacked and abducted by the mysterious foreign agents who use the man’s anonymity against the Angels by supplying just the right amount of disinformation to trick the trio into unintentionally helping out their interests. While their endgame is still unclear, we now see how they plan to toy with our detectives.

While I’m still a bit unsure of throwing Jill, Kelly, and Sabrina into the the world of international spies and nuclear secrets, the second issue shows off the trio’s skills while also showing how easily they can be manipulated through Charlie. The question is, now that the ladies know something is wrong, what will they do next?

Mission: Impossible - Fallout movie review

Very much a sequel to Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Mission: Impossible – Fallout brings back both heroes and villains from the previous film. As we saw in Rogue Nation, the various other government agencies are still struggling to work with the IMF. This isn’t helped when three nuclear warheads slip through Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) hands in the opening action sequence and are about to be sold on the black market to a terrorist with delusions of grandeur.

Forced to work with CIA thug August Walker (Henry Cavill), Hunt and his team (Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg both return) accept their assignment, but, as usually happens, things don’t go according to plan. Rebecca Ferguson and Sean Harris both return to reprise their roles from the last film as a potential love interest for Ethan and a villain harboring and even bigger boner for the spy who put him behind bars.

Although Jeremy Renner isn’t present here, the latest in the franchise includes callbacks to several of the earlier films and in some ways feels like a final chapter to the series (while still leaving the door open if Cruise and company wish to return).

Charlie's Angels - Pilot television review

Today’s Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the tale of three beautiful former police detectives turned private detectives working for a faceless boss known as Charlie. The show’s “Pilot” sends the Angels to the California wine country to investigate the apparent death of a winery’s missing owner. The episode features not one but two Angels taking on the persona of the victim’s long lost daughter as both Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) and Sabrina (Kate Jackson) play the role of the missing heir in order to catch the killer. Poor Jill (Farrah Fawcett) gets the less meaty roles of secretary and swampland hick that help sell various aspects of the con.
