Charlie's Angels #1 comic reviewThe classic TV-show Charlie’s Angels gets new life as a comic. Dynamite Entertainment’s new series keeps the Angels in the 1970s, and opens with the trio working undercover in the Limbo Lounge to overhear a meeting between a skeezy crook forcing his way into the profitable night club and his equally sleazy guest.

Hired by the clubs original owner, the Angels are looking for evidence to push the criminal element out of the Limbo Lounge. All hell breaks loose during Sabrina‘s magic act, but it turns out to be all part of the plan. Of course no Angels plan is complete with a few wrinkles and some quick thinking to get their client out of a jam. However, there looks to be more trouble for our heroines on the horizon in the form of two foreign agents with dastardly plans.

Ant-Man and the Wasp movie review

2015’s Ant-Man was a fun and lighthearted entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe that, while mostly enjoyable, would certainly rank among the weaker (and more forgettable) entries to the MCU. Ant-Man and the Wasp brings back former thief turned super-hero Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), the original Ant-Man Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and his daughter Hope (Evangeline Lilly), and most of the supporting cast and characters from the first film including Scott’s former prison buddies and family. As in Ant-Man, several people are after Pym and his work. And given Scott’s improbable return from the Quantum Realm at the end of the first movie, Hank Pym plans of his own.

Although the plot of the film is a bit too convoluted for its own good as it continues to juggle multiple plots and characters (many of whom get far more screentime than necessary), I found the sequel more enjoyable than the original playing off established relationships and concepts introduced in Ant-Man. Following Avengers: Infinity War, smaller stakes (both literally and figuratively) also prove to be a nice change of pace from the universe threatening death dealer.

Our Throwback Tuesday post takes us back into the Cold War spycraft of Danger Man. Things nearly turn out poorly for John Drake (Patrick McGoohan) when he assumes the identity of a recently paroled convict (Barry Keegan) whose new employer wants to put his old bomb-making skills to use. At first everything goes as planned and the spy is accepted in his role, but that only lasts for a day before the arrival of someone who knows the real bomb-maker putting Drake in jeopardy.

Voltron - Razor's Edge television review

While Allura (Kimberly Brooks) and Lotor (A.J. LoCascio) begin creating new ships infused with Altaen alchemy, Keith (Steven Yeun) and his mother (Ana Gasteyer) head off into unstable space known as the Quantum Abyss in search of a batch of super-duper magical quintessence that went missing years before. Although it’s a pretty convenient plot device, the timeflashes caused by the unstable space provide a way for the show to cram in flashbacks to Keith and his mother’s pasts, while the relative time of the anomaly gives them years together to get to know each other, and the flashes of the future also continuing to foreshadow trouble with Shiro (Josh Keaton). I’m guessing the relative time difference will shoot the pair back out not far from when they entered. The pair’s adoption of a cosmic wolf is an interesting touch, as is their surprising discovery in the middle of the abyss. Just what does this mean for Allura’s alliance with Lotor?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Twelve #1 comic reviewThe end begins. Joss Whedon returns to write the final season arc of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Christos Gage that kicks off with Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Twelve #1. There’s fun, there’s fightin’, and there are feels.

The gang has grown a little older and (maybe) a little wiser in the year since we saw them last. Xander and Dawn are living together in the suburbs with a baby girl whose name with give longtime Buffy fans all the feels. Spike and Buffy have split but are still on good terms, Willow is leading a women’s power movement which includes Wiccans and Slayers, Giles has been restored to his proper age, and all seems relatively quiet… except for the legendary final battle just around the corner and a vampire from the future that plans on making sure he comes out on top.
