IT: Chapter One movie reviewIT isn’t the first time Stephen King’s novel of the same name has been adapted, although it is the first time it has been made into a theatrical release. There are some noticeable differences between the 1990 two-part television mini-series and the latest version from director Andy Muschietti, most notably that this version only offers half the story and alters the timeline of events considerably.

Now set in the late 1980s, the original story arc introduces us the town of Derry and a group of kids who are all outsiders (Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Wyatt Oleff) who band together in a Losers club for protection against a local bully (Nicholas Hamilton) and something far more sinister (Bill Skarsgård) living in the town’s sewers abducting children. Called “It” by the kids who discover they are not alone in the odd horrific visions each has seen, nearly all of which include an appearance by a scary clown named Pennywise who enjoys frightening and torturing children nearly as much as it does pulling them into the sewer to feed on during his periods of hibernation.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eleven #10

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eleven #10 comic reviewOn the run and seeking proof about what the United States Government is really up to concerning internment of magical creatures, Buffy and the Scoobies break into a secret facility where they discover all manner of odd experiments created from a mix of science and magic including a cyborg octopus. Realizing government scientists are draining magic and imbuing their own creations with them, the Scoobies seek out more answers… by kidnapping the Vice President of the United States.

While this issue doesn’t reveal the person behind the strange government experiments it does feature plenty of action and put a ticking clock on our heroes to fight the good fight. With satellites ready to go into orbit to drain the magical powers of everyone within the borders of the United States (as a start), it’s time for action.

Killjoys - Wargasm TV review

Killjoys closes out its Third Season with the war between the Hullen and the Killjoys finally heating up. “Wargasm” also gives us the confrontation between Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) and Aneela (John-Kamen), although its outcome (and that of the war) is unexpected. Given how the episode ends, it looks like its going to be awhile before our three heroes return to their roles as space bounty hunters.

Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider #6

Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider #6 comic reviewThe death of Ben Reilly‘s patient marks the end of Kaine‘s patience. However, before pitting the two Scarlet Spiders against each other once more, the comic introduces a wild card in Marlo Chandler-Jones who seems to have an unusual effect on both Ben and Kaine. Inspiring Ben to go after a pair of thugs shooting up Las Vegas, the Scarlet Spider jumps into action (although he does have to be talked out of gunning down the villains in the middle of the street by one of their would-be victims).

The introduction of Marlo certainly muddies the waters. Just what does the strange woman want from Ben? Her various powers over the years have been less than consistent, so just what is giving her influence over not one but both Scarlet Spiders? And why does she seem more interested in the original?
