Harley Quinn and Batman #1 comic reviewA prequel of sorts to DC’s new animated straight-to-DVD release Batman And Harley Quinn, the new digital series from artists and writers tied to Batman: The Animated Series begins here with the opening story by Ty Templeton and artist Rick Burchett focused on Harley Quinn‘s betrayal of the Joker.

Set in the style of last season of Batman: The Animated Series (I would have preferred the original look of the characters, but this version does offer us a cameo by Nightwing), the comic opens with Batman and Nightwing breaking into the Joker’s lair. Ready for the Dynamic Duo, the Joker is flabbergasting when all his defenses and plans fail spectacularly leading Harley to reveal that she was responsible. Not getting the rise out of Mr. J. she hoped, Harley does get a hand by Poison Ivy who shows up to rescue her friend from Batman and the police.

Voltron: Legendary Defender begins its shortened Third Season with rebellion against the Galra spreading like wild fire. While Haggar (Cree Summer) has kept the severity of Emperor Zarkon from his soldiers, Prince Lotor (A.J. Locasio) has arrived to take control. Distrusted by his exile, rumors of his mercy, his unorthodox style, his love of “half-breeds,” and his sudden appearance, Lotor makes an impressive introduction to the troops quickly dispatching on of his most popular rivals. Zarkon may be gone, but it appears the Galra aren’t giving up their empire without a fight.

John Drake‘s (Patrick McGoohan) latest assignment sends him from Paris into Austria to bring in international assassin Hans Vogeler (Derren Nesbitt). The carefully-laid plans are destroyed by the unexpected interference of a Swiss schoolteacher on holiday. Cuffed to Lisa Orin (Sarah Lawson), Drake makes the best of his situation (and the woman’s bad timing) to complete his mission and get out of Austria in one piece.

Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider #5 comic reviewKaine finally catches up to Ben Reilly in Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider #5. The comic is most memorable for the fight between the pair that takes up most of the issue. Despite his vow to kill the other clone, Kaine decides to let Ben Reilly live for now leading to a temporary halt in hostilities between the pair until Reilly can cure a sick child (who he neither knows how to cure nor really wants to).

Fans of both versions of the Scarlet Spider will get their money’s worth here seeing the pair duke it out in panel after panel. While a few panels are left over for Cassandra Mercury seeking out and confronting the person responsible for the recent attacks on her casino, the limited number of panels is mainly used to break-up the action between the two Peter Parker clones.
