Once Upon a Time - Murder Most Foul TV review

While “Murder Most Foul” focuses on Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) being the noble one and preventing an obsessed David (Josh Dallas) from taking revenge on the man responsible for his father’s death, the episode ends on a twist which just may undo all the good the pirate has done since meeting Emma (Jennifer Morrison). Hook may have one won the blessing of his girlfriend’s father, but what happens if either of them learn his secret?

Powerless - Cold Season television review

Over Teddy‘s (Danny Pudi) objections, Emily (Vanessa Hudgens) submits his newest invention for company-wide awards. Unaware for how her emotional employee takes the prospect of both success and failure, things get frosty in the office (and not only because the beginning of summer means the arrival of cold-based villains who begin freezing everything in sight). In an expected, but still a humorous twist, Teddy’s heat gloves do come in handy with the return of Crimson Fox (Deanna Russo) leaving all well and good in the offices of Wayne Securities once again.

Kong: Skull Island

Kong: Skull Island movie reviewFar more focused than Peter Jackson’s bloated three-hour mess, Kong: Skull Island is a film with a clear agenda of what it is and what it wants to do. Sadly, King Kong hasn’t had the greatest career in the movies with far more disappointments than successes. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and screenwriters Dan Gilroy, Max Borenstein, and Derek Connolly strip away much of the Kong story to focus only on the discovery of the giant ape and the mysterious island which is also home to other monstrous beasts the outside world can only imagine.

Piggybacking on a separate government geological survey, a small group from the secret government organization called Monarch heads to the unexplored island hidden behind constant storms. In the peaceful eye of that storm Randa (John Goodman), Brooks (Corey Hawkins), the mostly silent San (Tian Jing), their military escort led by the obsessed Lt. Col. Packard (Samuel L. Jackson), the mercenary-with-a-heart-of-gold guide (Tom Hiddleston), and their anti-war photographer (Brie Larson) discover the impossible. Monsters are real, and chief among them is one very large ape.

Batman #18

Batman #18 comic reviewAfter kidnapping Catwoman, Commissioner Gordon, and Duke Thomas, Bane offers Batman a simple exchange: his friends for the Psycho-Pirate. Despite his history with the Dark Knight Detective, the villain is unprepared for Batman’s response.

The latest issue of the “I Am Bane” storyline features an extended fight sequence between Batman and Bane. Although the villain gets the upper-hand, he’s unprepared for Batman’t contingency plan. Keeping Bane occupied with repeated headbutts to the super-villains’ fists gives Catwoman enough time to free herself and the other hostages and take away all of Bane’s leverage. Batman wins basically by letting Bane kick his ass.

Detective Comics #951

Detective Comics #951 comic review

“League of Shadows” begins here with Shiva and the League hitting Gotham City. Killing the mayor and framing Batman for the crime (hrm, not really happy to see another Batman fugitive storyline), the League of Shadows also expose the local newscasters to Joker venom on-air. And they are just getting started. Wreaking general havoc, the League begins its attack on the city and its protectors. As to just what the League wants, and how Batman for Batman and his team will have to go to stop them, we’ll just have to wait and see. Worth a look.
