Star Wars Rebels - Imperial Super Commandos

The latest episode of Star Wars Rebels takes Ezra (Taylor Gray) and Sabine (Tiya Sircar) back to Concord Dawn with their Rebel prisoner Fenn Rau (Kevin Mckidd) who discovers his Protectors have been destroyed by Mandalorians loyal to the Empire. Forced into an uneasy truce with Sabine, Rau is forced to choose between making his escape on his own or helping Sabine rescue her friend and take down the Mandalorians who killed his men. The episode’s purpose seems to be to turn Rau from a reluctant prisoner to a valued ally. In the end he chooses Sabine over his own freedom, suggesting we will be seeing more of the character this season.

No Tomorrow - No Regrets

Filled with more crazy antics and crossing off a few regrets from their bucket lists, “No Regrets” makes serious headway in putting some distance between itself and last week’s episode which ended in disappointing romantic cliche. For Xavier (Joshua Sasse) this means righting a childhood wrong involving a stolen baseball card (which turns out to be harder than expected) as well as finally admitting to Evie (Tori Anderson) the true extent of his feelings. For Evie it means attempting to mend the fences of a childhood friend (Allyn Rachel) she abandoned in high school to be part of the cool clique.

Scorpion - Bat Poop Crazy

Although the stakes turn out to be no less world shattering than usual (fate of the whole world, yada, yada, yada), the latest episode of Scorpion is a bit of change of pace. Rather than taking on gun-totting killers this week the team descends into a cave to do some spelunking in hopes of saving the local bat population from a disease which could wipe it out. As usual, things go wrong and the team has to think quick on its feet to save the local scientists helping them and make it out of the cave alive. Due to Happy‘s (Jadyn Wong) pregnancy she stays home with Ralph (Riley B. Smith) while Sylvester (Ari Stidham) is dragged into the darkness against his many objections allowing both characters to be uncomfortable in their roles (although Ralph’s sudden shift from the normal mild-mannered young genius to sugar-high crazy person certainly doesn’t make Happy’s job any easier).

Serenity: No Power in the ‘Verse #1

Serenity: No Power in the 'Verse #1The new Firefly mini-series takes place a couple of years after the events of Serenity. Malcolm Reynolds and his crew are still flying, although after their network of friends was culled during the events of the film Serenity’s crew has been forced to take mostly small-time jobs.

The first half of the comic gives us the crew in action during a heist and look at life aboard the ship with multiple relationships in full swing, a toddler on-board, and Jayne feeling increasingly isolated from the rest of his teammates. These pages work both to set the stage for what is yet to come and act as a primer for those who haven’t been following the group’s comic adventures since the film.

Once Upon a Time - Dark Waters

While the Aladdin (Deniz Akdeniz) storyline gets pushed to one of the episode’s subplots, “Dark Waters” picks up a thread of Hook’s (Colin O’Donoghue) past as the pirate confronts the appearance of Captain Nemo (Faran Tahir) and the Nautilus in both the present and in flashbacks. Tying in the theme of the Evil Queen‘s (Lana Parrilla) attempts to sow dissension among the heroes, the villain reveals Hook’s refusal to destroy the shears to Henry. Bringing the kid’s resentment to the pirate’s growing role in his family, the pair eventually come to an understanding as Henry helps Hook deal with one of his biggest regrets which has coming calling.
