Very much in the vein of Guardians of the Galaxy or Suicide Squad, Thunderbolts* offers the teaming up of lovable losers. In the case of Thunderbolts* (the name of which turns out to be one of the movie’s better jokes), the group are all independent black-ops cleaners for Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who, while under investigation from Congress about her illegal programs, has had each of them tying up any loose ends that would lead back to her.

Batman #159

The Hush sequel (which is unfortunately being referred to as H2SH) continues here. Hush has returned and has put Batman in a situation to go to extraordinary lengths to save the life of the Joker (who after getting emergency treatment by Dr. Leslie Thompkins gets his own gurney in the Batcave). On the plus side, the story features Batman adorned with the classic Bat-Symbol (although sadly not the Bronze Age utility belt) and cameos aplenty (like the original) with Batgirl, Nightwing, the Riddler, and the Red Hood (back in the original helmet).

Leverage: Redemption – The Scared Stiff Job

In “The Scared Stiff Job” the crew tackles a greedy businessman (Sam Witwer) targeting dying patients offer cryonics which bankrupts the families they leave behind, and, when the bills can’t be paid, sells off the body parts for an even larger profit. The solution to their problem is a bit goofy, running a form of A Christmas Carol in attempting to make him believe he is waking up in the future to new owners of the business even less scrupulous than him. A bit of gaslighting later, and proving to his over-the-moon secretary he doesn’t care for her at all, and the team racks up another win for the little guy. The episode is similar to, although not as effective nor memorable as, “The First Contact Job.”

Sherlock & Daughter – The Common Thread

The second episode of the series begins Amelia Rojas’ (Blu Hunt) apprenticeship under Sherlock Holmes (David Thewlis). While carrying out Holmes’ orders in snooping at the Ambassador’s home and looking for the horses used in the abduction, Amelia can’t ever grasp the last order Holmes gives in “do nothing more.” While her ingenuity proves fruitful, and Clara Anderson (Gia Hunter) is found, her choice to rely on the police rather than bring in Holmes at a crucial moment allows for the mysterious Thread to make off with their other hostages. One mystery is solved, but the larger one (which continues to shackle Holmes’ ability to work out in the open) continues.

Watson – The Man with the Alien Hand

For a show still trying to figure out what exactly it is, “The Man with the Alien Hand” is an interesting episode that opens the door, should the writers choose, to offer episodes more about mystery and detection outside of medical diagnoses. The episode starts much like any other with a patient with an unusual condition involving not having control of one of his hands. While helping him, Watson (Morris Chestnut) and the team also give their patient some credibility when he uses his condition to murder his brother and claim a higher percentage of his inheritance. While there still are medical aspects to the case, “The Man with the Alien Hand” becomes more about proving a criminal’s guilt than solving the patient’s condition.
