The Fortification Implementation

“The Fortification Implementation” is a rare episode of The Big Bang Theory where we are offered three separate stories which all work independently of each other. My favorite of the three brings back Wil Wheaton playing himself, and Penny‘s (Kaley Cuoco) former co-star on Serial Ape-ist 2: Monkey See, Monkey Kill, for a podcast in Penny’s apartment with Penny and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and special guest-caller Kevin Smith (also playing himself and never shown on-screen). Bringing up the old fights about Penny’s failed acting career the scenes also feature some fun back-and-fourth between the four characters with several jokes at Kevin Smith’s expense (who’s not even in the room to defend himself).

Anne Hathaway’s Wrecking Ball vs. Emily Blunt’s Piece of My Heart (Lip Sync Battle)

Still full of far too much filler and not enough actual content, last night’s Lip Sync Battle raised the bar a bit by pitting good friends Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt against each other. The two verbally sparred back and forth for most of the evening but Hathaway stole the night with her performance of Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball” (watch Blunt’s reaction in the background to her performance).

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Afterlife

The latest episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is broken into three storylines each born out of the current S.H.I.E.L.D. vs. S.H.I.E.L.D. arc. A familiar face returns to join Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Hunter‘s (Nick Blood) attempt to find Skye (Chloe Bennet) and put things right. Divided loyalties within S.H.I.E.L.D. force Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) to leave, Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) to make a hard choice, Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) to question the organization’s assessment of Skye, and Gonzales (Edward James Olmos) to find a way to kinda-sorta entice May (Ming-Na Wen) into betraying Coulson without actually betraying Coulson. And Skye struggles to get used to her new life among the Inhumans with the help of a man named Lincoln (Luke Mitchell) who keeps at least as much hidden about the group as he explains.

Hawaii Five-0 - Ike Hanau

Although other characters appear throughout the episode, including a B-story involving Danny (Scott Caan) and Mindy (Amanda Setton) stuck in an elevator which works as a callback to his claustrophobia introduced earlier in the series, “Ike Hanau” is mainly a Grover (Chi McBride) episode as the newest member of Five-0 is forced to question his oldest friend (Mykelti Williamson) whose wife (Kim Wayans) dies in an apparent accident while the pair were visiting the islands during their 20th wedding anniversary. Despite not having a single piece of evidence that points to a homicide rather than an accidental death Grover can’t help the nagging suspicion that his old partner pushed his wife off a cliff.

Elementary - The View from Olympus

While Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) ponders over the issue of fathering a child for a longtime paramour (Anastasia Griffith), whose motives Sherlock is immeadiately suspicious of, the detective and Watson (Lucy Liu) are called in on a case involving the intentional hit-and-run that left a rideshare driver dead. Although at first all evidence points to a local cab driver as the most likely killer, Holmes quickly eliminates that possibility and begins investigating a Big Brother program known as Zoos whose users gladly allow the company to track their whereabouts not realizing how such information could be put to use in the wrong hands.
