The first Paddington film in eight years takes Paddington (Ben Whishaw) and the Brown family out of London and into the jungles of Peru. Flipping the fish-out-of-water concept of the series on its head, the third film in the franchise returns Paddington to the jungle while pushing the Brown family, who all choose to accompany him, into unfamiliar surroundings allowing them to react to the strange new world.

Avengers #23

While not as fun as stealing her own suit of armor underneath Tony Stark‘s nose, the Black Cat being hired by Kang to steal some important doohickey from the Grandmaster kept in some sort of galactic casino (while outmaneuvering the Avengers) has its moments (most notably in Kang recruiting the thief and in the late reveal of Felicia’s cost for helping the villain).

While staying with Faith (Iantha Richardson), Evelyn Mitchell (LisaGay Hamilton) is abducted leading to an episode that explores the strained mother/daughter relationship of the pair as Faith, Will (Ramón Rodríguez), Angie (Erika Christensen), and Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) all work the case. The focus on Faith and her mother allows the show to put some emotional distance between Will and Angie who are both completely dialed in to finding Faith’s mother. “Breathe with Me” also shows Evelyn’s mind is sharp as ever an she still has a few tricks up her sleeve managing to stay alive long enough to be found. No tragedy here as Evelyn is returned safely and mother and daughter become closer  than they have in years.

Invincible – You’re Not Laughing Now

Keeping to the series’ trademark of overstuffing its episodes with plot, but somehow still managing to end in a cliffhanger, Invincible returns with a new season kicking off with Mark (Steven Yeun) all-in with training under Cecil (Walton Goggins) for months to expand his abilities. We get a couple of early fight sequences for Invincible that are otherwise disconnected from the plot including taking down the Giant (Fred Tatasciore) in the desert and, alongside Rex Splode (Jason Mantzoukas), failing to stop two thieves from stealing the Declaration of Independence when Multi-Paul (Simu Liu) shows up blaming Rex for his sister’s death (except she’ not exactly dead). The latter of these seems like it’s important but it’s dropped almost immediately to pivot to the reveal Dupli-Kate (Malese Jow) is still alive.

Batgirl #4

The first half of Batgirl #4 deals with the fallout from the end of the last issue where Batgirl discovers just who her mother is working with. With an inclination to walk away, even if that means fighting her way out, Shiva attempts to convey the threat of the Unburied and why it is dire enough that the two of them need to work with current and former enemies such as Nyssa al Ghul and Angel Breaker who provide a bit more history of the Unburied and the war that was started with them by Ra’s al Ghul
