Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - The Battle for New York

Wrapping up the storyline involving a mutated New York controlled by the Kraang, the two-part “The Battle for New York” introduces a new team of old faces to help the Turtles in their hour of need – The Mighty Mutanimals (Slash, Leatherhead, Dr. Rockwell, and Pigeon Pete). Although their some uneasiness to the alliance early on, particularly between Leonardo (Seth Green) and Slash, eventually the mutants find a way to work together to save the mutated populace of New York City and return them home from Dimension X.

Hawaii Five-0 - Kahania

Offering the return of Michael Imperioli as local barber Odell Martin, the latest episode of Hawaii Five-0 focuses largely on McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) who finds himself in a stand-off with the barber and a young man (Steven Krueger) being hunted by the Armenian mob. Trapped in the barber shop without a phone (or any neighbor capable of hearing the hundreds of shots fired), Five-0’s commander manages to get all three men out alive, although a late twist puts the series of events in an entirely different perspective for McGarrett (as is evident by the episode’s tearful final reaction).

A bizarre murder after a hit-and-run sends Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) after a murderer responsible for a freeze-dried victim, the discovery of a theft of highly-controlled cooling gas, and leads them to a fly-by-night cryonics facility. Given the sketch artist’s drawing of the most likely suspect in both the theft and murder turns out to be the most unlikeliest of suspects the detectives have their hands full in discerning the truth of what is actually going on.

While laying the groundwork for next week’s series finale (TNT decided not to renew the show for a Fourth Season), “Romeo” features Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack) attempting to come to terms with his feelings about Kate‘s (Rachael Leigh Cook) impending marriage to Donnie (Scott Wolf) while investigating a murder on campus most believe was committed by a mentally-confused student (Deniz Akdeniz) whose previous rash behavior wasn’t punished more harshly by Haley (LeVar Burton) because of the Dean’s friendship with Daniel.

Princess Leia #1

Princess Leia #1Beginning with the awards ceremony which closes out the original Star Wars, the first issue of Marvel’s new Princess Leia series centers around Leia struggling to find a new role within the Rebellion following the destruction of her homeworld Alderaan.

Although I think some of inking of artist Terry Dodson’s panels look a tad unfinished in places, Dodson’s art is a solid match for Mark Waid’s storytelling the offers a rationale for Leia to have a few solo missions of her own to fuel the series. Not completely on her own, Waid and Dodson introduce the character of X-Wing Fighter Pilot Evaan who is loyal to the last remaining royal from her homeworld even if she has issues with Leia’s public demeanor.

Although we get glimpses of other familiar characters including Luke, Wedge, Han, Chewbacca, and Admiral Ackbar, it seems that Leia and Evaan will be carrying the bulk of the story from here on out as the pair search for other survivors of Alderaan whom the Empire has put a bounty (including a certain Rebel princess). Worth a look.
