All-New X-Men #31With the instructors busy with other business, the time displaced X-Men along with the returned Angel and X-23 (whose new relationship is cause of great interest for the entire school) set off to find and rescue a young mutant just coming int her powers. However, what the group doesn’t yet know is the type of her mutation and how her uncontrolled ability to open doorways to alternate dimensions will leave on member of the team stranded in the Ultimate Universe.

Although I think it’s very possible for these characters and this comic specifically to get time/space dimension fatigue beginning so quickly after wrapping up a storyline involving villains from the future, Brian Michael Bendis’ choice to bring Jean Grey into a universe he knows so well (he did help create it after all) does open the door for some intriguing possibilities as long as the arc doesn’t overstay its welcome (a problem the title has had issues with in the past). Worth a look.

Beware the Batman - Monsters

The arrival of a group of heavily armored and well financed thugs roaming the streets of Old Gotham, along with a mysterious savior whom the neighbor has dubbed their Golem, brings Batman (Anthony Ruivivar) and Katana (Sumalee Montano) to Gotham City’s poorest part of town. Unmasking Metamorpho (Adam Baldwin) as the Golem doesn’t stop the mercenaries working for the imprisoned Simon Stagg‘s (Jeff Bennett) daughter Sapphire (Emmanuelle Chriqui) nor the out-of-control District Attorney Harvey Dent (Christopher McDonald) intent on taking down the city’s vigilantes by any means necessary.

While attempting help a client (Daniel Roebuck) whose expensive beach property was illegally seized and built upon by his neighbor (Bruce Nozick) during his lengthy abscence following The Grateful Dead, Franklin (Breckin Meyer) and Bash (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) accidentally piss off a corrupt cop (Vincent Ventresca) who begins to make the pair’s lives a living hell including throwing both of them in jail overnight over trumped-up charges. After Anita (Toni Trucks) discovers the cop spends his free time working for the land developer who screwed over their client, Peter enlists the help of his his ex Wendy (Kat Foster) which also reawakens some old passions.

Fables #143Continuing to gear up the end of the series, the return of Bigby Wolf creates new problems in Fables #143. Unaware that the feral creature is being controlled by the mysterious woman whose true motives have yet to be revealed, the out-of-control Bigby is slowly leaking magic into the outside world destabilizing the illusions that keep Fabletown hidden.

Things aren’t slowly down in the growing conflict between Snow White or Rose Red as both women choose names for their swords and take one step closer to inevitable conflict. And, proving Snow a better judge of character than her sister, Brandish takes advantage of the confusion to murder Weyland Smith exacting a bit of revenge and earning a measure of freedom as his exact role in the coming conflict is still very much undecided.

The strong issue also includes the very last story of Babe the Miniature Blue Ox who reminds readers of previous adventures and then threatens them not to finish the issue thus allowing the series to continue. If only that was the case. Worth a look.
