Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Ultimate ShowdownThe two-disc Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Ultimate Showdown set collects the final dozen First Season episodes of the current Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon including more of the Turtles battling Shredder (Kevin Michael Richardson) and his mutated warriors Dogpound (Clancy Brown) and Fishface (Christian Lanz) as well as the two-part finale “Showdown” where the Turtles attempt to stop the Kraang invasion and the arrival of the Technodrome on Earth.

Other highlights from the two-disc set include Michelangelo (Greg Cipes) fighting off his brothers who have all fallen under the control of a giant wasp, Karai‘s (Kelly Hu) attempt to kidnap April O’Neil (Mae Whitman), Baxter Stockman‘s (Phil LaMarr) Maze of Doom, Donatello (Rob Paulsen) going on a solo rescue mission to save April’s father (Keith Silverstein), the introduction and return of The Pulvirizer (Roger Craig Smith), and Karai and Leonardo‘s (Jason Biggs) failed attempt to work together to stop the Kraang.

Hawaii Five-0 - Ka 'oia'i'o ma loko

When the investigation into a double robbery-homicide that left an infant girl without parents leads to the discovery of a secret society, Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim) introduces McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) and Danny (Scott Caan) to a conspiracy theorist (Jorge Garcia) who specializes in both the arcane and ridiculous. Jerry informs the group that only item stolen from the victims’ home might actually be the key to unlocking a 700 year-old priceless treasure Chin Ho’s friend believes may have been smuggled to the island years ago inside a statue of King Kamehameha. Despite Danny’s skepticism, the longer Five-0 investigates the more Jerry is proven correct.

G.I. JOE: Special Missions #8

G.I. JOE: Special Missions #8This single issue tale has a little less action than you’re regular issue of G.I. JOE: Special Missions, but plenty of equipment and high-tech gadgetry, as the team’s nerdier members set out to stop a Cobra hacker from starting a war between two former Soviet Republics.

This is an issue where characters like Hard Drive, Spreadsheet, and Dial-Tone all get to strut their stuff and Mainframe (rather than someone like Duke or Scarlett) gets to perform the big heroic mission by destroying a Cobra drone at 60,000 feet before it can kill the one man capable of negotiating a settlement and stopping a full-out war.

I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to see the series continue without some of the JOEs bigger names getting into the action as well, but for a one-off tale G.I. JOE: Special Missions #8 works pretty well and reminds readers about the diversity of the ranks and skill sets of the organization. Worth a look.

Superman/Wonder Woman #1

Superman/Wonder Woman #1I wasn’t expecting much from the New 52‘s latest addition, but the first issue of Superman/Wonder Woman #1 from writer Charles Soule and artist Tony Daniel turns out to be better than expected. Focused more on the differences of the two characters and the unique challenges of their relationship, Superman/Wonder Woman #1 may not sell me on the idea of Superman and Wonder Woman as a couple, but it does find an interesting way to explore that relationship.

Of course if you’re going to put two of DC Comics’ biggest guns in a single book you’re going to need some big bads for them to fight. The cover teases the kinds of villains the pair may face as the series continues, but the first issue gives them a storm, a plane in need of rescue, and a monster-sized threat that certainly fits the bill with the appearance of Doomsday.

DC hasn’t been able to get me to stick with Wonder Woman or Superman’s various solo titles, but I’m at least a little interested to see where this will lead. Worth a look.

Elementary - We Are Everyone

Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) are hired to find a civil contractor (Christian Campbell) who has become national news after leaking classified information to the media, even though Holmes suspects the man (Ronald Guttman) who hired them, under an assumed name and questionable story, wishes the contractor nothing but ill will. While shadowing the reporter (Laura Osnes) who printed the man’s story, Holmes stumbles onto a collective of cyber-terrorists protecting the missing man, one of whom turns up dead.
