Jurassic World: Chaos Theory - Batten Down the Hatches

Working as a bridge between the show’s First and Second Seasons, the season premiere “Batten Down the Hatches” gives us the our heroes stowed away on the dino freighter on the way to learn more about the mysterious “Broker.” A storm causes some mayhem aboard the ship, but also distracts the crew from dealing with the stowaways who put their dino-knowledge to work to get the dinosaurs back in their cages before leaving on a lifeboat and finding themselves shipwrecked on a new island (suggesting that, if they remain on the island, this season might be more like the series which spawned the show than last season).

Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #1

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein

Scary Sunday takes us back to an unlikely meeting of Hollywood stars. Hoping to use the studio’s most popular stars to rekindle interest in their monster properties, Universal brought the comedic duo into the world of Dracula (Béla Lugosi), Frankenstein’s Monster (Glenn Strange), and the Wolf Man (Lon Chaney Jr.) bringing back the actors who had made the monsters popular. Despite concerns about the script from everyone involved, and the less than cordial relationship between Abbot and Costello, the film became one of Universal’s biggest hits leading to further misadventures of the duo with the Universal Monsters.

Sing: Thriller

Given the multiple allegations of the singer sexually abusing children, one could argue on whether or not creating a children’s short around one of Michael Jackson‘s most famous songs is in good taste. That said, judging the short on its own, Sing: Thriller offers a simple setup to allow the cast of the Sing films to perform “Thriller” twice, first on-stage as part of their latest show and later in Buster’s (Matthew McConaughey) hallucination with each casting the regulars as zombies dancing to the music. Both offer a fun Halloween kid-level creepiness which has the benefit of bringing in both fans from the animated films and those seeking a bit of 80s nostalgia as well.

Citadel: Diana - War

The second episode of Citadel: Diana serves two purposes. First, it cements a secret partnership between Diana (Matilda De Angelis) and Edo (Lorenzo Cervasio) to turn the rival Manticore agencies against each other. The plan bears some early fruit, although Edo’s father continuing to sniff around Diana may eventually cause a problem (even if going with his son’s plan unintentionally saves Diana’s life while the rival Manticore agencies take out most of their other agents). Second, “War” provides flashbacks to Diana’s training from Gabriele (Filippo Nigro) for Citadel explaining her ability to lie and deceive as well as the cause of her medical condition.
