Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Cornered TV review

A much-needed supply run forces the Bad Batch (all voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) to Pantora to restock and give Tech time to scramble the Havoc Marauder‘s signature. The action of the episode comes from the appearance of Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) who’s showing up everywhere these days. Befriending the lost Omega (Michelle Ang) who got separated from Hunter, the bounty hunter nearly makes off with the clone. The episode is really only notable for introducing Fennec into her fourth Star Wars property (not to mention books and comics) while continuing to foreshadow something special about this young clone.

Black Widow

Black Widow movie reviewThe movie Marvel Studios didn’t want to make finally sees the light of day. Despite being the first female hero introduced in the MCU, Marvel seemed to have no interest in giving Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) her own film until the financial success of Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel forced their hand.

First, let me say that I’m glad we get a Black Widow movie. The character rocks, Johansson is brought back with her deadpan wisecracks, and it’s thoroughly, unapologetically, over-the-top during its climactic bat-shit-crazy battle sequences.

Spawn’s Universe #1

Spawn's Universe #1 comic reviewThe oversized Spawn’s Universe #1 creates a moment of change in the battle of Heaven versus Hell as Spawn, Gunslinger Spawn, and Cogliostro are captured by a new villain calling himself the Disruptor who has plans for the trio and is using leftover power from the Omega Spawn to wreak havoc across the world.

For someone who remembers the release of Spawn #1 but hasn’t been a regular reader of the title for decades, Spawn’s Universe #1 feels a bit unwieldy. It’s large, boasts of importance, and even offer more Spawns (both in the main storyline and back-up stories). It also requires you to go back and read some recent Spawn comics to make sense of just what the hell is going on here (something 66 pages overflowing with narration should help alleviate).

Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Replacements television review

Given the damage to their ship, the Bad Batch (all voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) crash land on Ordo Moon. Their repairs are slowed by a Moon Dragon stealing one of the ship’s parts leading Hunter and Omega (Michelle Ang) heading after the beast on their own. As to what the rest of the crew does in the meantime and why more don’t go in search for the only thing which will allow them to take off from the barren moon before they run out of supplies and oxygen… that’s not exactly clear. But, hey, Wrecker does build Echo her own room, so, you know, time well spent. The storyline allows Echo to act on her own, and prove herself to Hunter (which couldn’t be done had the other members joined in the search), while continuing to foreshadow there is something special about this young clone.

The Invincible Red Sonja #2

The Invincible Red Sonja #2 comic reviewRed Sonja‘s return to Erkhara as the protector of Princess Zaria doesn’t begin easily. Not only does she have to protect the princess against attack, but Sonja’s return hasn’t gone unnoticed by the kingdom’s wizard who has put a bounty on Sonja’s head as well. On the eve of the wedding, we also get an attack on Zaria’s life and the theft of the crown jewels of the city. It doesn’t appear things will get any easier for Sonja in the days to come.

Most of the action from this second issue comes from Sonja running down an assassin across the city. We also get a battle with an unknown creature in a dark pit, which is cleverly hidden from the viewer as the creature from the shadows finishes off the would-be assassin.
