Elementary - Gutshot television review

For a show that has included an underlining message about moving forward, the final season of Elementary awkwardly takes two-steps back as Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson‘s (Lucy Liu) London adventures are apparently done after a single episode. Returning to New York to investigate the shooting of Captain Gregson (Aidan Quinn), Joan publicly joins Marcus (Jon Michael Hill) in the investigation while Holmes hides in the shadows to avoid apprehension by the FBI. Although the episode begins with the assumption that both detectives would return to London following the apprehension of Gregson’s shooter, it appears the pair will be remaining in New York for the foreseeable future. While the move to London threatened a big shake-up for the show it also offered new avenues for both Holmes and Watson in London. That, apparently, is not what the writers had in mind for our characters.

Blood & Treasure - Code of the Hawaladar TV review

As Farouk (Oded Fehr) searches for Cleopatra’s tomb, Danny (Matt Barr) and Lexi (Sofia Pernas) continue searching for Farouk. Believing tracing the money Shaw (Michael James Shaw) was to be paid to be their best lead, Danny takes the arms dealer’s place. Sadly, things don’t go according to plan when Danny is recognized as a former agent of the FBI. Thankfully, Danny has better bargaining methods than the local police in getting the information they need as the series continues to showcase him as the white knight compared to Lexi’s more gray leanings. The episode also builds in a little more time for Father Chuck (Mark Gagliardi) who is able to offer separate assistance to both Lexi and Danny and also sees another casualty when Asim (Patrick Sabongui) is killed on the raid of Farouk’s safe house.

Joker: The Vile and the Villainous! TV review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to Gotham City where a masked detective and an assortment of partners would help save the world on a weekly basis. “Joker: The Vile and the Villainous!” is one of the show’s odder episodes as it is shown completely from the perspective of the Joker (Jeff Bennett) who “heroically” attempts to prevent Batman‘s (Diedrich Bader) construction of a machine which will be able to predict crimes and help a down-and-out villain known as the Weeper (Tim Conway), who apparently was the Joker’s idol, get back into the game.

NCIS - Daughters television review

NCIS’ latest case gets personal when Emily Fornell (Juliette Angelo) shows up in the emergency room with an opioid overdose. While NCIS first believes her to be a victim, it doesn’t take too long before Fornell (Joe Spano) discovers his daughter is an addict. The episode is notable for two guest-appearances, one directly tied to the Fornell storyline and one which leads into next season’s premiere. The first is the return of Melinda McGraw who appears as a ghost to haunt Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and push him into taking Emily’s case (despite a dubious jurisdictional claim). Gibbs has been haunted by several characters over the years, but Diane’s return caps a season-long theme of the grizzled agent letting his guard down more than at any point in the show’s history.

Blood & Treasure - The Curse of Cleopatra television review

The two-hour series premiere of Blood & Treasure introduces us to former FBI agent turned antiquities expert Danny McNamara (Matt Barr) who is lured back into the field when his mentor (Alicia Coppola) is kidnapped after making a historic find in Egypt. Needing all the help he can get, Danny recruits a world-class thief – his ex-girlfriend Lexi Vaziri (Sofia Pernas). The two-part opener of Blood & Treasure is goofy and could be helped if the show embraced what it is wholeheartedly instead of attempting to straddle a semi-serious line throughout the premiere as the pair bicker and make goo-goo eyes at each other.
