The Flash - Null and Annoyed television review

Without a reason for the change, Ralph (Devon Graye) backpedals into the and even more jokey and less reliable friend first introduced this season as he and Barry (Grant Gustin) search for another of the bus meta-humans. Of course, Barry falling back into jerk mode doesn’t help the situation any. Giving herself the name Null (Bethany Brown), the new meta has the ability to alter gravitational forces on people and things making them temporarily weightless (before plummeting back to Earth with a big bang). “Null and Annoyed” is pretty forgettable, as it feels like the show is treading water leading up the the inevitable confrontation with DeVoe.

A Series of Unfortunate Events - The Austere Academy TV review

The Second Season of A Series of Unfortunate Events opens with Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes), and baby Sunny at Prufrock Preparatory School. Here they find both old and new kinds of trouble. Forced to live in a orphan shack and attend classes teaching worthless information, the Baudelaires will continue to search in vain for information about their parents and the unusual circumstances they have found themselves in. They will have to deal with the return of Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris), who disguises himself as the school’s new gym teacher and attempts to get the threesome thrown out of the school.

Babylon 5 - Survivors television review

Our Throwback Thursday post takes us back to the space station of humans and aliens all alone in the night. “Survivors” is a character-driven episode as someone frames Garibaldi (Jerry Doyle) for a terrorist bombing in one of the hanger bays just days before the President’s arrival. Complicating the matter is the investigation is handled by the President’s Chief of Security (Elaine Thomas) who has more than a little personal baggage where Garibaldi is concerned and still blames him for the death of her father years before. While far from a stand-out episode, “Survivors” does fill in a bit of backstory for Garibaldi and showcase his resilience and resourcefulness when he becomes a fugitive aboard the station. The reveal that Homeguard is responsible for the bombing is foreshadowing for more trouble the station will have with the group in the years to come.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #20

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #20 comic reviewTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #20 features Raphael and Alopex working together to free animals at Null Industries before they can be mutated. There’s plenty of action here as the pair square of against the murderous Zodi and the equally scary (but apparently far less-murderous) Krisa who Alopex is able to reason with long enough for our heroes to successfully finish their mission.

Of all the newer Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters Alopex is my favorite. Designed by Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman, the mutant Arctic Fox is a perfect fit for the craziness of of TMNT. I like the pairing of Alopex and Raph together, particularly in a heavy-action story like this one. The issue also raised my curiosity about Krisha. Given Zodi’s decision to cover for the newcomer with their boss it will be interesting to see where Krisha’s path leads in the coming months.

Beyond - F.G.B. / There's No Home for You Here

“F.G.B.” and “There’s No Home for You Here” wrap up the Diego (Oscar Camacho) storyline while leaving other lingering threads for the show to deal with should the show return for another season. “F.G.B.” allows Holden (Burkely Duffield) to briefly return to the Realm, which (as we’ve seen before) is wildly inconsistent with other flashbacks in the very ordinary looking “strange” realm. We do get a return to the giant room from Holden’s memories and a conversation with an old “friend.” There’s also a personal sacrifice, which comes off both macabre (which I’m sure was planned) and also bizarrely humorous (which I’m sure was not) that allows Holden to seal the breach to the other dimension. Hmm, you didn’t want to return that demon thing to the Realm first? Oh well, thankfully our baddie will help out with that.
