The InternNancy MeyersThe Intern is a fun, if lightweight, affair casting Robert De Niro as the unlikely new intern at an online fashion company who, of course, turns out to be the perfect man for the job. Immediately loved by everyone else in the company, it takes longer for the company’s CEO (Anne Hathaway) to take to the firm’s newest employee.

The Intern succeeds mainly on the likability of its stars, although the script gets into trouble with an ill-conceived heist sequence and a rather awful girl’s night out hotel bonding sequence between the pair late in the film.

Also troubling is that for the smart, successful businesswoman Hathaway portrays she’s incapable of making the easiest (and most obvious) decision in the entire movie which she needs the help of not one but two men (both her intern/new best friend and her less-than-trustworthy cheating husband portrayed by Anders Holm) to make for her.

The Shannara Chronicles - Ellcrys

The First Season of The Shannara Chronicles comes to a close with the battle between good and evil, death, the fall of one villain and the rise of another, and plenty of cliffhangers should MTV decide to bring back the series for a Second Season. Like much of the First Season, the finale is a bit of a mixed bag. The climactic battle the series has teased us about for weeks finally comes to pass. It’s here the limits of a cable budget are felt as the battle lacks the size and scope of what the series has built up over ten episodes.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow - Blood Ties

Remaining in the 1970s due to Kendra‘s (Ciara Renée) critical condition, the team splits up. While Martin Stein (Graeme McComb) and Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) work to try and remove the shards of magical dagger still in Hawgirl’s system, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and Sara (Caity Lotz) attempt to find and cripple Vandal Savage‘s (Casper Crump) resources, and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) enlist the help of Jackson (Franz Drameh) to perform a little grand theft auto and robbery.

Secret Six #10

Secret Six #10After Zatanna recaps the events of the arc so far, “House of Strangers” concludes with the Secret Six taking on Superman to fight for the right to destroy the world in order to save the life of Black Alice. But if the world ends how will Black Alice be safe? Hey, we never said these guys were smart. Loyal, sure. But not smart.

Gail Simone has to think outside of the box to find a way for the half-dozen rogues to stand toe-to-toe with the Man of Steel and come out on top. Not bad for a band of misfits thrown together by chance. That said, the comic ends on an anti-climactic note as the decision of friend vs. world is taken out of their hands and the story simply peters out.
