G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero – Silent Missions (Beach Head)

Honoring the original “Silent Interlude” issue from G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #21 from 1984, Image and Skybound are putting together a series of silent issue one-shots featuring different characters. While I didn’t enjoy it as much as G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero – Jinx #1, this one-off issue featuring a wounded Beach Head crashing down in a DMZ and being helped by a local woman and her child who he in turn helps with Cobra comes for him, has some nice moments by working around the need for foreign dialogue in an issue without any dialogue and then saving most of the action until the end with the Joe fighting to hold out long enough for his friends to arrive.

Out of his element, but not without some skills of his own, Charlie gets a crash course by another operative (Laurence Fishburne) before disappearing and chasing down those responsible for his wife’s murder.

Although he finds the girls, Colter loses them by handing them off to a group he mistakes for helpful locals who are actual a fucked-up group of mountain folk (Sean Depner, Jedidiah Goodacre, and Ariana Guerra as a victim made part of the family) who turn them over to the head of their family (Sean Bridgers) and plan on torturing the girls for their pleasure.

Darkwing Duck #2

The second issue of the new Darkwing Duck series, set early-ish in the crime-fighter’s career, gives us Bushroot who takes the place of the substitute teacher at Gosalyn‘s school just as she tries out (and fails to land) the starring role in the school play. Promising to help her get a larger role if she helps him out in his garden, Gosalyn unwittingly helps the criminal create bushy henchmen in the look of her classmates and also St. Canard’s most famous hero.

Justice League Unlimited #5

Justice League Unlimited #5, which features several heroes including Flash, Green Lantern, Impulse, Star Sapphire, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl all disappearing and finding themselves fighting threats in some weird nightmarish dimension, is really a lead up to the issue’s final panel (which, oddly enough, is given away on the comic’s cover?).
