The Truest Believer & the Lost Girl

After ignoring the show for two seasons, I decided to peek into Once Upon a Time and check in on how the real-life fairy tale drama was doing. The beginning of Season Three features Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), Regina (Lana Parrilla), and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) searching for the lost Henry (Jared Gilmore) who was kidnapped and taken to Neverland where the devious Peter Pan (Robbie Kay) has plans for the “heart of the truest believer.”

Daredevil: Dark Nights #5

Daredevil: Dark Nights #5The second-half of writer/artist David Lapham’s story about Daredevil chasing around a 10-inch imp around New York City doesn’t have quite the same zany feel given the murder of Buggit’s friend in the final panel of last month’s issue. Although the odd little man had good intentions to help his friend escape a murder conviction, his actions actually directly led to the murder.

With no time, and various distractions in his way such as the Shocker who escapes police custody and a giant monster in the middle of Manhattan the Avengers are trying to contain, Daredevil once again chasing the little man through the city. The difference this time is Buggit has strapped himself with a suicide bomb and is out to make sure the mobster who had his friend killed pays for it.

Although the end is far too tidy (and convenient) for my tastes, and the second issue isn’t as fun as the first, the mini-series second arc kept my interest all the way through the end (which is more than I can say for the first arc). For fans.

[Marvel, $2.99]

The Michael J. Fox Show - Pilot

In a plot not that far removed from the actor’s own struggles, Michael J. Fox stars as a news anchor who leaves his job to spend more time with his wife (Betsy Brandt), sister (Katie Finneran), and three children (Juliette GogliaConor RomeroJack Gore) after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. The Pilot episode revolves around Mike driving his family crazy with his over-attention, Mike’s old boss (Wendell Pierce) trying to woo him back into the studio, and Mike’s daughter Eve (Goglia) making a sappy pseudo-documentary of her father’s struggles to get out of her actual homework assignment.

Nashville - I Fall to Pieces

In the aftermath of the car crash Rayna (Connie Britton) languishes in a coma, Deacon (Charles Esten) is in jail facing drunken driving charges, and Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) worries the timing may tank her new album’s release. Peggy (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) lies to Teddy (Eric Close) about loosing the baby to try and keep him, Scarlett (Clare Bowen) and Gunnar (Sam Palladio) each deal with their recent break-up in different ways as she throws herself into trying to get her uncle released on bail (despite his complete disinterest at leaving prison) and Gunnar lets himself get roped into a party thrown by his still closeted roommate (Chris Carmack) that gets a little out of hand.
