Batman, Supergirl & The Flash

Racing out of the ashes of the Snyderverse (which thankfully is in its final death throes) comes 2023’s The Flash with problematic Ezra Miller reprising his role as lab tech turned super-hero Barry Allen. Despite its multiverse themes, The Flash isn’t in the league of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. That said, being partly fueled by nostalgia of seeing Michael Keaton back as Batman, The Flash is still better than expected and a perfectly fine summer popcorn flick.

The Flash – A New World

The four-part series finale of The Flash reminds us of the highs and lows of the series with returns of several familiar faces, touching on familiar themes, and unnecessarily bloating the story with excess B-storylines for the numerous characters. The original spinoff to Arrow, The Flash helped cement the foundations of the Arrowverse. At its best the Scarlet Speedster entertained while keeping its focus on the humanity of criminal scientist Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) who used his speed to help save Central City from all kinds of threats, included some inadvertently caused by himself.

Spidey Super Stories #25

Wayback Wednesday takes us back to another classic adventure of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The main story of Spidey Super Stories #25 pits Spidey against an evil twin created by Doctor Doom. It’s just the kind of wacky adventure you’d expect from the comic with Spidey battling his doppelganger before destroying the mirror which hid Doom’s evil twin-making machine (and for some reason destroys the twin?) and capturing Doom. While the logic at the end may not make much sense, it’s still quite a bit of fun with evil Spidey wearing a reversed-colored costume and looking for trouble.
