The June 7th edition of AEW Dynamite gave us Orange Cassidy defending the International Championship against Swerve Strickland, the Blackpool Combat Club versus Chaos, a battle of words between MJF and Adam Cole, Ricky Starks versus Jay White, a brutal tornado tag match featuring Jungle Hook, the first title defense for Kris Statlander, confirmation on two Forbidden Door matches, and the official announcement of the first main event for AEW: Collision.

The Rising – Episode 1

The opening episode of The Rising introduces us to the recently deceased Neve Kelly (Clara Rugaard) who awakes in a lake only dimly aware of the previous night’s events. While her parents grow increasingly concerned over her absence, Neve continues to make her way home only to arrive and find she cannot interact with her mother (Emily Taaffe). Slowly realizing that she’s a ghost, Neve eventually uses the methods available she has to interact with the living world to lead the search party to her body. The show’s frantic emotional core and cinematic style make for a hell of an introduction, although I do wonder where things go from here.

Will Trent concludes its first season with Will (Ramón Rodríguez) shrugging of the shock of Angie’s (Erika Christensen) abduction and the secrets Wagner (Sonja Sohn) has been keeping from him for years to lead the search to find the serial killer responsible for his mother’s death and Angie’s kidnapping. Leaving plenty left over for the show to dive into in the show’s Second Season, including the fallout from the last two episodes of this one, the season ends with answers and justice for our title character as the writers save their best work for last. I’m happy to have found this show and so glad to learn it has been renewed for another season. I look forward to see where things go from here.
