Superman: Red and Blue 2025 Special

Following a similar set up to the number of black and white comics released as mini-series anthologies in recent years, the Superman: Red and Blue 2025 Special offers a list of four anthology stories featuring Superman, but instead of highlighting him in black and white (although both colors are also used) we get the hero highlighted in his traditional colors of red and blue.

Watson – Back from the Dead

Despite the rather huge twist at the end of the series premiere, “Back From the Dead” turns out to be a rather standard episode of Watson with the clinic working on an unusual case that might involve plague buried since before the Ice Age. The difference here is the story is told through flashbacks, by Watson (Morris Chestnut) to Sherlock Holmes (Robert Carlyle).

The return of Holmes isn’t quite what I was hoping for, as it doesn’t appear the character will be incorporated into the show week to week, but at least it’s not what I was dreading as we confirm Holmes did indeed return (and it isn’t a dream or hallucination of his best friend either tied to the issues from the First Season or as a result from the latest case). Holmes is alive and well in the Watson universe, but likely only available for sweeps.

While not in any real danger, the settings (including the billionaires all playing classic board games in an empty mansion) certainly raises the creep factor.

Aladdin

  • Title: Aladdin (1992)

Released to critical and box office acclaim, although not without controversy for its depiction of Arab characters and culture, it’s easy to forget the success Disney’s Aladdin had given it would be soon eclipsed by The Lion King just two years later. While not the title character, it’s impossible not to begin with Robin Williams as the voice of the Genie. Despite the negative experience with working with Disney, Robin’s stream-of-consciousness comic style translated terrifically to an animated character (even if I could do without some of the more obvious Disney pop-culture references).
