Batman Beyond - Dead Man's Hand TV review

Today’s Throwback Thursday takes us back to the future for another episode of Batman Beyond. During a break with Dana (Lauren Tom), Terry (Will Friedle) meets Melanie Walker (Olivia d’Abo), a new girl in town. The two make an instant connection and seem to understand what each is going through. At the same time a new Royal Flush Gang arrives in Gotham City led by a King (George Lazenby) with a grudge to settle against Batman for breaking up an earlier version of the family years before. The reason Melanie understands Terry so well is that she too spends nights in spandex under the gruff leadership of an older, driven man.

Lucifer - Expire Erect television review

Looking for closure, Lucifer (Tom Ellis) decides on one final case with Chloe (Lauren German) involving the death of a collector of classic cars. Chloe, who has only recently begun to come around to the truth about her partner, meets Eve (Inbar Lavi) for the first time and discovers there is another woman who has known about Lucifer who she can discuss the Devil with (and who has been impregnated by an angel and just gotten an unexpected roommate).

Batman #77

Batman #77 comic reviewBatman #77 is most notable for the death of a major supporting character (at best a questionable choice, at worst potentially damaging the core of the Bat-Family). However, much of the issue focuses on Damian and his attempt to enter Gotham City (despite warnings from Bane and his minions about what will occur should any member of the Bat-Family enter the city limits).

After making short work of Gotham Girl, Damian squares off against the city’s new Batman. I’m not sure if I buy Damian’s defeat against the elderly Batman from a parallel world (can’t stop a senior citizen, Damian?), but the back-and-forth between them works fairly well prior to Robin’s defeat.

Remington Steele - Steeling the Show TV review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the 80s detective show Remington Steele. Steele (Pierce Brosnan) throws a wrench into the agency’s latest case when the daughter (Frances Lee McCain) of a famous B-movie actress (Bibi Osterwald) hires the firm to find her missing mother. Playing up the woman’s senility, the daughter hopes to end her mother’s ill-conceived return to the silver screen. Steele, more than a little taken with one of his favorite actresses, believes the woman’s story about someone wanting to kill her and keeps the team on the case even after the actress is thrown in the looney bin for the murder of a publicist (Richard Backus) digging into the woman’s past.

Killjoys - Three Mutineers television review

Alliances continue to shift in “Three Mutineers” as Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) struggles to deal with backstabbing convicts and murderous envoys. Johnny (Aaron Ashmore) on the other hand makes a new friend (Rachael Ancheril) and puts Nucy to work to get the Killjoys a new ship. By the end of the episode the Killjoys have all made it out alive, have a way back to Westerly, tricked the Lady into thinking that they are dead, and Dutch and Johnny have (thankfully) put hurt feelings and bruised pride aside just in time to continue the fight of their lives. Not bad for an hour’s work.
