Danger Man - The Prisoner television review

Our Throwback Thursday post takes us back into the Cold War spycraft of Danger Man. There’s a lot happening in “The Prisoner” as Drake (Patrick McGoohan) first needs to find a suitable double to stand in for an American citizen (William Sylvester) confined the U.S. Embassy in the Caribbean for five long years. Stepping out the embassy would mean the man’s death at the hands of a brutal colonel (William Lucas) and a president (Michael Peake) all too eager to earn a big victory over the West. Drake finds such a double in a famous pianist, and former soldier, who agrees to help despite the danger he will certainly be putting himself in.

Archie Meets Batman ’66 #2

Archie Meets Batman '66 #2 comic reviewWith Batman‘s most fearsome villains (the Joker, Catwoman, the Riddler, the Penguin, and others) relocating to Riverdale for easier pickings, the Dark Knight Detective sends Robin and Batgirl in undercover as transfer students to Riverdale High. Remington Steele – Steele Belted television review

Today’s Throwback Tuesday post takes us back to the 80s detective show Remington Steele. While Laura (Stephanie Zimbalist) ignores the break-in at Steele‘s (Pierce Brosnan) apartment as someone from his nefarious past coming to call, she has a harder time ignoring the attack on her partner (especially after the names of those involved correspond to a current case). The firm’s current client is a recently-paroled ex-con (Andrew Bloch) who Laura believes someone in framing for the theft of valuable gold coins. Although Steele’s initial involvement on the case doesn’t help the client, who gets charged for murder, he does sniff out a suspicious character in the man’s lawyer (Barry Van Dyke) who has turned the head of Ms. Holt.

Nancy Drew #3

Nancy Drew #3 comic reviewChapter 3 of “The Case of the Cold Case” continues following Nancy‘s discovery of a body in the caves around Deadman’s Cliff. Happy to discover the out-of-contact Nancy is alive and unharmed, her friends finally demand some answers allowing writer Kelly Thompson to catch everyone up on why Nancy has returned to Bayport and what mystery Pete needs her help to solve.

The issue offers the classic trope from Nancy Drew, Scooby Doo!, The Three Investigators, and the Hardy Boys stories as the local police seem reluctant to accept the deductive abilities of the teenage girl and quickly dismiss clues that could help them solve the case. It looks like this one is up to Nancy and friends.

Samurai Jack - Episode XII: Jack and the Gangsters television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to the adventures of the time-displaced samurai and his quest to make his way home. “Episode XII” is an odd episode, even for Samurai Jack. Stumbling into a den of low-level gangsters working for Aku (Mako), Jack (Phil LaMarr) decides to join the group in hopes of being taken his enemy. Prior to getting there, the samurai will get an old school gangster makeover and will have to battle three elemental warriors for control of a gem that offers the user control over water. While not one of the shows’ most memorable episodes, “Episode XII” does offer enjoyable action sequences, the odd styling of Jack dressed in a pinstripe suit, and it’s the closest Jack gets to defeating Aku up until the show’s finale. Only the “help” of his new friends prevents Jack from destroying the evil that is Aku and thus forcing his quest to continue.
