iZombie - Spanking the Zombie TV review

While Liv (Rose McIver) eating the brains of a dominatrix turns out to be not as wild a time as expected, “Spanking the Zombie” does provide some fun moments of Liv dominating those around her and allow for the return of a pair of a familiar faces in newsman Cliff McCormack (Daran Norris) and lawyer Brandt Stone (Ken Marino), both clients of the recently departed and suspects in her murder. The latest episode of iZobmie also hastens Major‘s (Robert Buckley) decline to the point where the group has no choice but to give him the cure which may save his life but will also take away his memories. Given the transformation of Blaine (David Anders) after his cure, just who will the new Major turn out to be?

Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #25

Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #25 comic reviewWhile ultimately I don’t think Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #25 quite lives up to its promise, it’s hard for me not to enjoy a comic that so blatantly celebrates the Bronze Age pairing of Green Lantern and Green Arrow. When Mystery, Inc. travels into Karma Corners the group of meddling kids and their talking dog run across a pair of hard-traveling heroes (making reference to Dennis O’Neil and Neal Adams famous comic run).

I enjoyed seeing Scooby-Doo and the gang interact with both Ollie and Hal, but the setting of Karma Corners is a bit corny (even for me). Still, there’s plenty of fun to be had including writer Sholly Fisch having fun with the fact that Green Arrow’s rogues gallery is pretty damn forgettable. The comic even gives us a (far too short) appearance by Black Canary.

Lucifer - Candy Morningstar TV review

After an extended hiatus Lucifer finally returns. I’ll be honest, like Chloe (Lauren German) I was irked by Lucifer (Tom Ellis) apparently reverting to form showing up after an unannounced two-week vacation with a bimbette bride (Lindsey Gort) and walking into the police station as if nothing had happened. As the episode unfolded, however, there are aspects of the story that turned out to be better planned than simply resetting the status quo just for the sake of doing so. The hidden nobility of Lucifer’s actions and the truth about just who Candy (Gort) is both continue to build on a character who is far more layered than when Detective Decker first walked in to his bar. The subplot of his Mum (Tricia Helfer) wracking her head attempting to make sense out of such a bizarre action turned out to be an added treat.

Batman #21

Batman #21 comic reviewIt’s been almost a years since DC Rebirth #1 relaunched the DCU, retconned a big chunk of the New 52 as the work of a super-villain, and teased a connection behind the entire chain of events to one of the best comic series ever written. Since then DC’s been pretty quiet on the subject for the most part, at least until now. It seems it’s time for the Dark Knight Detective and the Scarlet Speedster to search for the truth.

Batman #21 picks up the breadcrumb of the Watchmen button left in the Batcave. When the unexplained artifact gets too close to the Psycho-Pirate‘s mask things take an unexpected turn with the sudden appearance of the Reverse-Flash. You might expect the Flash‘s arch-nemesis to stick around to cause more trouble, but he too is drawn into the mystery of the button. You know what they say about curiosity, right?

The Flash - The Once and Future Flash TV review

There are two issues at play in “The Once and Future Flash,” although the show’s writers have not intention of resolving either one. The first involves Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) transformation into Killer Frost, which Barry (Grant Gustin) abandons his friends to deal with on their own as he races into the future to find answers about Savitar. Returning to the present nearly the same moment he left, Team Flash isn’t left on their own for long, but it does prove long enough for Caitlin to escape and further crystallize the timeline the Flash has desperately attempting to prevent.
