Scorpion - Sharknerdo television review

Taking on a job on the high seas in search of sunken treasure leads to Walter (Elyes Gabel) and Paige (Katharine McPhee) becoming stranded on wreckage after their boat explodes leaving them at the mercy of the ocean. Oh, and then the sharks show up. With the help of Sylvester (Ari Stidham) and Happy (Jadyn Wong) working from home, Cabe (Robert Patrick) and Toby (Eddie Kaye Thomas) are able to find the stranded sailors, but with boat issues of their own and a frenzy of sharks attacking their stranded friends, the rescue just became far more complicated.

The King and I

The King and I DVD reviewRe-released on DVD, 1956’s The King and I brought the Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II musical to the big screen in CinemaScope starring Deborah Kerr as schoolteacher Anna Leonowens who instructs more than just her students when she takes a job teaching the children of King Mongkut (Yul Brynner). Winning five Academy Awards (including a Best Actor Oscar for Brynner), the film holds up.

As has been stated in other corners of the Internet, the DVD version of the film is much crisper and cleaner than the Blu-ray release (where lighting and color are both inconsistent). Fans who don’t own the 50th Anniversary DVD should certainly think about adding this to their collection for the music, Brynner’s performance, and an impressive amount of extras.

Powerless - Wayne or Lose television review

I know what you’re going go say. Another super-hero show? Yes, but this one is more super-hero adjacent. With iZombie still on hiatus, our current run of super-hero TV has had a decidedly lacking in fun and whimsy in favor of darker storylines (with the exception of the almost always optimistic Supergirl). More office comedy than true super-hero fare, NBC taps into an unexplored part of the super-hero universe – the regular people. In a world beset with super-villains and their constant destruction, somebody has to look out for the average Joe. For the citizens of Charm City that company is Wayne Security (the less-known subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises).

Arrow - Second Chances television review

The search for a new Black Canary leads Ollie (Stephen Amell) and company to Hub City in search of a former police detective (Juliana Harkavy) who has become something of an urban legend since a failed undercover operation in Hub City left her partner dead and her with meta-human powers not unlike those of Black Siren. Out to kill the criminal responsible for her partner’s death, the potential recruit isn’t all that receptive to Oliver’s first few pitches about becoming part of the team. Meanwhile, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) is able to help get Diggle (David Ramsey) released by re-embracing a bit of her hacker past and her run-in with a hacktavist (Kacey Rohl) inspired by the woman she used to be.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eleven #3

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eleven #3 comic reviewI’m not sure if Joss Whedon and his comic team anticipated a Trump presidency when laying out the events for the Eleventh Season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or not, but it’s certainly timely. As the government begins making good on their threats, demons and witches are rounded up to relocation camps. Much of the issue deals with the team’s various attempts to protect its younger members, but when the shit hits the fan and a Slayer arrives to forcibly remove Willow and Spike things get real.

Willing to fight to protect her family and friends, Buffy is talked down from starting a revolution by Willow. Choosing to go with her best friend and Spike, Buffy says farewell to the rest of the Scoobies and begins a new journey.
