The Librarians and the Eternal Question television review

“And the Eternal Question” is one of the few episodes of the show to directly reference the specifics of one of The Librarian movies. A case of spontaneous combustion leads Stone (Christian Kane), Ezekiel (John Kim), and Cassandra (Lindy Booth) to a holistic retreat run by vampires who have found the one place on Earth they can live outdoors during the daytime. While it may be the weakest of the three made-for-TV movies, The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice did offer an unusual love interest for Flynn (Noah Wyle) in the undead, but ravishing, Simone (Stana Katic). Flynn’s previous relationships haven’t been discussed until now, and I still wonder just what happened to both Emily (Gabrielle Anwar) and Nicole (Sonya Walger).

The Wicked + The Divine #25

The Wicked + The Divine #25The infighting within the Pantheon is still going strong in The Wicked + The Divine #25 as Laura and Urdr confront Woden about his complicity in Ananke‘s crackpot murder schemes to keep “the Great Darkness” at bay and control the cadre of selfish and self-serving gods with short lifespans.

There are a couple big takeaways from this issue. First, Laura can be scary as fuck when she wants to be, and even her fellow gods are concerned and frightened by the level of her powers. Second, aside from all her maneuverings and murders, it appears Ananke was working to prevent something worse… and now we’re going to get to see just what that might be.

Hulk #1

Hulk #1 comic reviewCivil War II (Marvel’s latest big event which I gave up on fairly early on) has left Jennifer Walters a changed woman. Unlike Bruce Banner, Jen was always able to control enhanced abilities turning them into an asset rather than a curse. This was fruitful in the courtroom as well as in some super-villain’s secret lair. It seems times have changed.

Trying to get her life back on track, Jen takes a new job at her old law firm and settles in for the new normal. What she’s keeping from the world, however, is that things are no longer normal (or whatever her old status quo used to be). The rage inside her is building and it looks like She-Hulk as we knew her may be gone.

Doctor Who - The Return of Doctor Mysterio television review

Then there was the time that The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) accidentally created a super-hero. “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” is unexpected but not unwelcome. As the show has moved away from doing their own versions of classic Christmas stories we’ve gotten more variation in these specials, and “Doctor Mysterio” certainly fits that bill. After a short introduction in which we see a young boy exposed to a Hazandra gem which will grant him his fondest desire, the episode jumps to present time where The Doctor discovers Grant has grown up into a young man (Justin Chatwin) who has decided to use the powers accidentally granted to him to live out his lifelong fantasy as a super-hero.

Unable to find the source of the dragon which destroyed much of San Fransisco, the Scoobies also spend time putting out small fires of mobs attacking witches and demons, blaming them for the recent troubles. As tensions rise across the country, the United States Government steps in with a solution: a census to register all magic and other-dimensional individuals. However as conflicts keep simmering, the government decides a more drastic “temporary” solution may be in order.
