The Flash - Rupture

Although we see none of the Flash in action, aside from Cisco‘s (Carlos Valdes) parlor tick of using a hologram in an attempt to convince the people of Central City that their hero hasn’t abandoned them, “Rupture” may prove a pivotal episode not only in the season but the entire series. Offering the return of John Wesley Shipp, a new meta-human in the evil doppelganger of Cisco’s brother (Nicholas Gonzalez), the return of Zoom (Teddy Sears) and the beginning of his reign of terror on this Earth, and giving us the origins for two new speedsters in Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) and Jesse Quick (Violett Beane), the main focus of “Rupture” focuses in the internal struggle of Barry (Grant Gustin) weighing the costs of a risky opportunity to regain his speed.

Velvet #14

Velvet #14Searching for answers about who killed X-14 and framed her as a traitor, and connecting that to the Watergate break-in, leads Velvet Templeton to Washington, D.C. where the spy makes a bold move in blackmailing Vice Gerald President Ford and kidnapping President Richard Nixon. You know, just another day for the world’s greatest spy.

Although the truth of what she discovers is kept from the reader, the answers to Velvet’s questions taste more like ash than victory. Her capture by Colt, who has continued to track her from her recent shoot-out in Washington, to end the issue only compounds the sense of failure as Velvet is staggered by what she learns from Nixon in the few moments she spends with the President in the subway tunnels under D.C.

Elementary – The Invisible Hand

Another attempt on his father’s life confirms Sherlock Holmes‘ (Jonny Lee Miller) suspicions that the group responsible is the shadow organization once run by Jamie Moriarty (Natalie Dormer). Although Moriarty does not appear in the episode, in scouring through her possible former lieutenants Holmes and Watson come across mathematics professor Joshua Vikner (Tony Curran) who fits the more classic mold of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original Moriarty. Without incriminating himself, the man admits to Holmes and Watson his connection to Moriarty and her former organization as the episode offers a pair of scenes for the detective and the villain to discuss the situation in which they find themselves.

Justice League vs. Teen TitansThe latest home video release further exploring the characters and world introduced in Son of Batman sends the uncompromising Damian Wayne (Stuart Allan) to the Teen Titans in hopes that Robin may be able to learn teamwork and trust. Borrowing a little from Damien’s time with the Teen Titans prior to the New 52 reboot, writers Bryan Q. Miller and Alan Burnett choose to give their spin on a more classic Trigon (Jon Bernthal) story. As with the previous movies, the story lacks the Robin/Red Robin rivalry from the comics, but certainly entertains.

With both heroes and villains being possessed by a demon threatening to break into their world, Raven (Taissa Farmiga) reveals the truth about herself and her father to her teammates Beast Boy (Brandon Soo Hoo), Blue Beetle (Jake T. Austin), and Starfire (Kari Wahlgren). When Raven is captured and multiple members of the Justice League are possessed by Trigon it falls on Robin and the Teen Titans to save the day.
