Director Johan Grimonprez‘s film is an unusually structured documentary blending music, soundbites, interviews, archival footage, and narration from different sources to examine jazz, decolonization, subversion, autonomy, political assassination, and Cold War clashing ideologies all through the lens of the murder of prime minister Patrice Lumumba of the newly independent Congo which was unwittingly aided by Louis Armstrong in his role as an ambassador to Africa.

The final two episodes of Citadel: Honey Bunny‘s season finally bring Honey (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) and Bunny (Varun Dhawan) back together, and introduce Bunny to his daughter, while also wrapping up the flashbacks detailing the events that happened eight years prior and Honey’s betrayal and presumed death which allowed her to disappear. After Bunny sues Guru (Kay Kay Menon) for peace, KD (Saqib Saleem) refuses to step down leading to a bloodbath of an extended action sequence featuring Honey and Bunny mowing down legions of Guru’s men. Despite no news on whether or not a Second Season will be coming, the show ends on a cliffhanger with Bunny making a suicidal run buying time for Honey and Nadia (Kashvi Majmundar) to escape.

Arcane – Blisters and Bedrock

“Blisters and Bedrock” underlines a truth about Arcane I’ve noticed more and more across its two seasons. When the focus remains largely on Jinx (Ella Purnell) and Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) I’m completely on-board. However, the further the series deviates from these two characters the less interested I’ve become. Thankfully, “Blisters and Bedrock” gives us the sisters reunited in search of their dead father who isn’t actually dead and is now an unstoppable werewolf. Don’t you hate it when that happens? The storyline is the focus of much of the episode, finishing in a proper (if bizarre) family reunion, leaving the less interesting plots and characters to fill in gaps here and there.

Saturday Night

Director Jason Reitman, who co-wrote the script with Gil Kenan, offers a witty, fast-paced, love letter to the rocky beginnings of a modern comedic touchtone by going behind the scenes in the hours just before the first live performance of Saturday Night Live. With two hours until air, we follow Lorne Michaels (Gabriel LaBelle) around the chaotic setting of Studio 8H at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The film plays up tensions at NBC at the time between the network and Johnny Carson which allowed for the show’s creation even if, as the film suggests, no one at NBC expected Saturday Night to ever make it to air.
