The Egg Salad EquivalencySheldon’s (Jim Parsons) overreaction on hearing his assistant Alex (Margo Harshman) has made a pass at Leonard (Johnny Galecki) backfires for both roommates when Dr. Cooper is accused of sexual harassment after turning to Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Bernadette (Melissa Rauch), and Amy (Mayim Bialik) for advice. As Penny becomes upset by how much Leonard enjoyed getting hit on by an attractive younger woman Sheldon meets with a representative of the university’s human resource department (Regina King) which only makes matters worse.

Throwing his colleagues under the bus to save his own skin, Leonard, Raj, and Howard all find themselves called before human resources to defend recent actions. By the end of the episode things get back to normal as Sheldon apologizes to Alex for his behavior (and then enlists her assistance in a university mandated sexual harassment workshop), and Penny’s jealousy slowly fades with Leonard’s apology and her discovery of a new tool to keep his interest.

Doctor Zhivago

  • Title: Doctor Zhivago
  • IMDB: link

doctor-vhivago-dvdSet against the Russian Revolution of 1905 and the Second World War, this four-hour mini-series adaptation of the Nobel Prize winner Doctor Zhivago tells the tale of doctor and poet Yuri Zhivago (Hans Matheson) whose duty and honor keep him from the woman (Keira Knightley) he truly loves and engenders no love from the new Communist state.

A more faithful adaptation than David Lean’s 1965 film, this less grand version still has to make concessions to fit the near 600-page novel into its four-hour running-time. The result is very good version of the story strengthened by the performances of Knightley, Matheson, Sam Neill, and Alexandra Maria Lara.

Re-released yesterday on DVD, the two-disc set include information about author Boris Pasternak, a photo gallery, filmographies, and cast and crew interviews from Knightley, Matheson, Neill, Kris Marshall, director Giacomo Campiotti, writer Andrew Davies, and producers Anne Pivcevic and Andy Harries.

[Acorn Media, DVD $29.99]

Supreme #67

supreme-67-coverIt may have taken an extra three months, but the latest issue of Supreme finally hits shelves delivering on the promised ultimate throwdown between Supreme and Omni-Man who arrives to stop Supreme from killing Suprema.

The battle of arguably Image Comics two most powerful warriors certainly delivers with pages and pages of the two heroes going at it. We also get a back-up story as New Supreme attempts to readjust to his new surroundings, and the other former Supremes convincing New Supreme to find a way to fight back and stop Mean Supreme before his bloody rampage kills anyone else. But to do so they will need the help of an unlikely ally.

Honestly, when the comic three months without a new issue I figured the recently relaunched Supreme had been dealt a silent death behind the scenes. I’m pleasantly surprised it’s still here. Even embracing the Extreme 90’s version of Image Comics it’s still more fun that almost anything DC is currently putting out with their gritty New 52. Worth a look.

Nikita – Season 1

  • Title: Nikita – The Complete First Season

nikita-season-one-dvdIt’s always interesting going back and start watching a show from the beginning after picking it up sometime during a later season. I decided to give Nikita a chance this year and enjoyed the show enough to pick up the First Season on DVD.

Based on the French film of the same name and the American remake, Nikita stars Maggie Q as government trained assassin on the run from the shadowy organization who trained her. Rather than give us a new take on the character’s origin story the series opens with Nikita reemerging after the events of the films with a plan to take down Division, the agency which trained her, with the help of a new Division recruit (Lyndsy Fonseca).

Most of the first season deals with Nikita staying one-step ahead of Michael (Shane West), the man who trained her, and Division strike teams, as Alex (Fonseca) slowly works her way up in Division feeding Nikita inside information to help destroy the agency that murdered her family years ago.
