The Hound of the Baskervilles

Sherlock Saturday takes us back to the first (and what is widely regarded as the best) of 14 films starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. The most adapted of any Holmes story, The Hound of the Baskervilles takes place mostly on the moors of Devonshire which has seen the death of Sir Charles Baskerville (Ian Maclaren) and may soon see a similar fate to his heir Sir Henry Baskerville (Richard Greene). Set during the Victorian Era, the film is notable for the look and tone of the foggy moors which provide the backdrop for the dastardly plan of murder.

Avatar: The Last Airbender - Warriors

The second episode of Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender gives us Aang‘s (Gordon Cormier) short time on Kyoshi Island. There are several pleasant changes from the animated version most noticeably Aang not needing to showoff to impress and removing Sokka‘s (Ian Ousley) toxic masculinity and sexist attitude from the episode altogether. I also quite enjoyed Maria Zhang‘s version of Suki, one of the original series’ best supporting characters, and the mutual attraction the two pair share. Memorable moments mostly center around the Sokka and Suki together, although the episode also provides a memorable example of what an Avatar in control of their powers can accomplish when Avatar Kyoshi (Yvonne Chapman) takes control of Aang and dispels Fire Nation intruders from the island.

Will Trent - It's the Work I Signed Up For

Spinning out of events from the season premiere, and touching on storylines began last season, both Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Faith (Iantha Richardson) visit the prison to find the shot-caller responsible for the bombing that took the life of Cricket (Susan Kelechi Watson). The investigation is stymied by the corruption within the prison and a prison break attempt which fails, but still leaves our detectives without answers. This leads to multiple father/son scenes between Will and James Ulster (Greg Germann) including the serial killer taking enough to “save” Will (but really just help out his own position within the prison hierarchy).

Jake and the Fatman - Fatal Attraction

Flashback Friday takes us to 80s Las Angeles, a large and in charge district attorney, and his special investigator with a taste of the finer things in life. The double-length “Fatal Attraction” provides a challenge for District Attorney Jason McCabe (William Conrad) in attempting to solve the murder of an old friend he suspects was killed by his wife (Rebeccah Bush) and son (Bruce Greenwood) despite the pair’s careful work to frame a fall guy for the crime. The episode sets up McCabe’s manner of investigation, bringing out the annoying “one more thing” Columbo-style of questioning when calling on the widow and the stepson she’s sleeping with.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Shadows of Tantiss

“Shadows of Tantiss” makes good use of a ticking tock trope using the blood sampling we saw introduced in “Confined.” With Omega‘s (Michelle Ang) blood now in the system, she’s forced to escape with Crosshair (Dee Bradley Baker) before the sample is tested leading to a hurried, but ultimately successful, escape from Tantiss. However, now that the Empire knows the secret they have been searching for so relentlessly is locked in Omega’s genetic code you would expect them to redouble their efforts to capturing her again.
