The roll-out of Obsidian North Platinum brings with it attacks on Andrea Rojas‘ (Julie Gonzalo) life and a chance for Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) to ingretiate himself with Leviathan by offering Supergirl‘s (Melissa Benoist) services as bodyguard. Both Lex and Brainy (Jesse Rath) take steps to increase the likelihood of of such a union, although each of their choices may lead to serious consequences. Even with a power-deficiency fighting an alien fueled by vengeance and power-stealing gauntlets, Supergirl manages to get to the heart of the issue and diffuse the situation to prevent a city-wide catastrophe that her boss was perfectly willing to allow to happen (as the show reminds us just how far Lex will go to get his way).

Supergirl celebrates its 100th episode with the return of Mr. Mxyzptlk as Thomas Lennon takes over the role and offers Kara (Melissa Benoist) the opportunity to fix her relationship with Lena (Katie McGrath) by revealing her secret to her friend turned enemy earlier in their relationship. Rather than one version of a different life shown, the It’s a Wonderful Life themed episode offers multiple alternate realities where Kara watches how events may have played out differently had she revealed herself to Lena earlier and earlier in their friendship.

• Title: Supergirl – Back From the Future (Part Two)

“Back From the Future (Part One)” was a fun episode, but there’s really no reason why it needed to be stretched into two episodes. “Part One” brought back Jeremy Jordan to deal with an alternate Earth doppelganger. In “Part Two” the vanquised Toyman is found in digital form uploaded to the DEO’s intranet taking control of various weapons and computers as it tries to break out into the world. The episode offers Winn a nice hero moment both for the actor and character, even if that ground had already been covered in the previous episode.

Although both the show and Brainy (Jesse Rath) waffle a bit over the recent change to his character there’s certainly an improvement over how the show has begun using the Legionnaire from the future. The episode offers the return of Jeremy Jordan reprising his role of Winn Schott and as an crazier version from a parallel Earth who Winn returns from the future to stop from destroying his timeline. Jordan fits in easily here, particularly in his individual scenes with both Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Nia (Nicole Maines), the later of whom he encourages by offering a glimpse of the hero she (and her descendants) will become.
