Atomic Robo and the Temple of Od #2

Atomic Robo and the Temple of Od #2“The Temple of Od” continues as Atomic Robo and Helen are captured by the enemy and taken back to their secret laboratory. Thanks to the timely sneak attack of Helen’s friends from Shanghai, after some verbal sparring with Atomic Robo and his captors, Robo is given just the distraction he needs to sneak into the lab with Helen and find the missing scientist, Dr. Lu.

Although their enemy is building a doomsday device as Robo suspected, the work they are doing (thanks to the captured Dr. Lu) is no less dangerous to the outside world.

Atomic Robo and the Temple of Od #1

Atomic Robo and the Temple of Od #1Set in 1938 during WWII, the Japanese have captured a Chinese scientist who has made a breakthrough in zero-point technology. The U.S. Military sends a reluctant Atomic Robo to investigate, find Dr. Lu Huang, and discover if the rumors of the Japanese creating their own teleforce gun are true. Of course, the military might have ulterior motives in finding Dr. Huang.

In Shanghai, Robo will meet the Chinese resistance and encounter old friend Helen McAlister before being captured by the Chinese military led by a super-powered soldier in Manchukuo. Let’s just say Robo’s sense of whimsy doesn’t help him make friends.

Atomic Robo and the Ring of Fire #3

Atomic Robo and the Ring of Fire #3Giant monsters attacking the world makes for strange bedfellows. Atomic Robo and his team accept an alliance with China’s “Most Perfect Science Division” to help fight Task Force Ultra and Majestic and stop the Biomega attacks around the world. Giving them access to state-of-the-art technology this allows the team to quickly construct Robo with a new body (although the slimmed down version lacks some of the appeal of the original, in my opinion).

On the larger stage we also get a look at the Titan program struggles to stop the growing threat of the Biomega (Pacific Rim style) which only adds to the pressure for Robo and his team to find a solution while also attempting to rebuild Atomic Robo’s unique power source all while hiding their technological breakthroughs from their Chinese partners who otherwise could recreate the tech for their own purposes after the threat has past. Their solution is inventive.

Atomic Robo and The Ring of Fire #1

Atomic Robo and The Ring of Fire #1Released first as a webcomic and later picked up by IDW for print publication, the first issue of Atomic Robo and The Ring of Fire deals with the present-day fallout of Tesladyne being branded a terrorist organization (see Atomic Robo and The Savage Sword of Dr. Dinosaur) and Atomic Robo‘s Old West adventures (Atomic Robo: The Knights of the Golden Circle) after being lost in middle of Dr. Dinosuar‘s timebomb and presumed dead by all but a handful of his most trusted scientists.

Sadly, our title character only makes the briefest of appearances here (and he’s certainly seen better days) as the first issue picks up events two years after the disappearance of Atomic Robo with the small band of Tesladyne scientists searching for their missing boss.

The Trial of Atomic Robo

The Trial of Atomic RoboEver since his first appearance in Atomic Robo’s Free Comic Book Day issue back in 2012 Dr. Dinosaur has been my favorite character in Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener’s insane (with genius!) comic book universe. Released as a free digital one-shot, The Trial of Atomic Robo pits Atomic Robo against the pain in his ass once again when the dinosaur attempts to sue in court for the same legal rights Robo has been granted.

Of course with his limited attention span, and the fact that he’s completely insane, it doesn’t take long for Dr. Dinosaur’s case to be thrown out leading the villain to declare Jungle Law and introduce his Omnisaur into the proceedings causing destruction and mass panic. Luckily a heroic science-adventurer is on the scene.
