Archie Meets Batman ’66 #3

Archie Meets Batman '66 #3 comic reviewWith Batman still in Gotham City dealing with the Bookworm, a subplot that takes up more pages than I expected (but without it the Caped Crusader wouldn’t be included here at all), Robin and Batgirl have made their settled into their undercover roles in Riverdale to see what the fuss is all about.

Thanks to the Siren, the dastardly the Joker, Catwoman, the Riddler, and the Penguin now have control of the adults of Riverdale. Now if they could just get rid of those meddlesome kids!

By the end of Archie Meets Batman ’66 #3 both Robin and Batgirl will run across a few clues to make an educated guess about the city’s new visitors and the hamburger-starved Jughead will get a far closer look at the town’s new Joker Burgers than he had planned.

Action Comics #1003

Action Comics #1003 comic reviewIt isn’t every comic you get to see Batman mug a woman in an alley and joke around with Superman about it. Without delving more into why she needs it, Action Comics #1003 features Robinson Goode acquiring some black market Kryptonite. Whether or not she meant to carry the unshielded meteorite fragment into the Daily Planet, it certainly has an effect on Clark Kent.

Which, of course, is how we come to find Batman mugging the woman and relieving her of the rare and expensive trinket. It also leads Goode back to her supplier who gets taken down by the ominous Red Cloud. Although the Man of Steel arrives too late to see it in action, he may have just found his first clue as to what is happening in the Metropolis underworld.

Justice League Unlimited - This Little Piggy television review

Our Throwback Tuesday post takes us back to the animated adventures of Justice League. “This Little Piggy” is a hell of a goofy episode that features Wonder Woman (Susan Eisenberg) being turned into a pig by the sorceress Circe (Rachel York). Needing all the help he can get, Batman (Kevin Conroy) turns to his old friend Zatanna (Jennifer Hale) to try and break the spell. When that fails, he calls on a few C-list Justice Leaguers to hunt down both the Wonder Pig (who goes missing) and Circe. All of the bizarre antics later, including Wonder Pig wandering into a slaughter house, conclude with Batman paying Circe’s price for Diana’s freedom in a way that brings both Circe and Zatanna to tears.

Archie Meets Batman ’66 #2

Archie Meets Batman '66 #2 comic reviewWith Batman‘s most fearsome villains (the Joker, Catwoman, the Riddler, the Penguin, and others) relocating to Riverdale for easier pickings, the Dark Knight Detective sends Robin and Batgirl in undercover as transfer students to Riverdale High. Meanwhile the villains, confounded by the sheer number of teenagers in the small town, set to recruiting new henchmen and discover there are some bad apples everywhere, even in Riverdale.

The mashup of the the 60s Batman TV-series and the pre-Riverdale gang provides all kinds of fun as the tones of both mesh perfectly.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #25

Red Hood and the Outlaws #25 comic reviewThings get pretty bleak for the Outlaws in the over-sized twenty-fifth issue. After fleeing from the police, the Red Hood runs into one pissed-off Batman who isn’t too happy with his former partner’s recent actions (such as murdering the Penguin on live television). Having broken their agreement that Jason could operate in Gotham City under the sole condition that he wouldn’t take a life, the Red Hood must face the music. Lucky for him, his friends step in to avoid him from getting his ass kicked any more than necessary.
