Justice League Action - E. Nigma, Consulting Detective TV review

After the Joker (Mark Hamill) traps Batman and leaves a scavenger hunt of riddles for Green Arrow (Chris Diamantopoulos) and Wonder Woman (Rachel Kimsey) to follow, the pair of heroes reluctantly accept the help of the recently reformed Riddler (Brent Spiner) who is more than a little miffed at another Bat-villain stealing his schtick. “E. Nigma, Consulting Detective” is a fun, if goofy, episode of the Riddler leading the two heroes through deciphering a list of ridiculous clues eventually leading back to the Joker’s hideout.

Batman #32

Batman #32 comic reviewThe War of Riddles and Jokes limps to the finish line with one final issue to conclude Bruce Wayne‘s retelling of events to Selina Kyle. Finally putting Batman, the Joker, and the Riddler in a room together to end the carnage, the issue’s big twist is the role of Kite-Man who helps Batman successfully thwart the Riddler’s final scheme. It’s a nice moment for a character who has been put through the wringer over this arc. The Riddler’s reaction to the swerve isn’t half-bad either.

Batman #30

Batman #30 comic reviewContinuing the War of Riddles and Jokes, the latest issue of Batman picks up the thread from Batman #27 and brings back Kite Man as our narrator. Obviously having chosen the wrong side, especially now that Batman has chosen to team-up with the Riddler to take down the Joker‘s army, Kite Man languishes as the Dark Knight and the Riddler’s men slowly whittle down the remaining Joker supporters until only he is left.

Batman #30 isn’t really enjoyable. It’s told well enough, but with the story presented from such a pathetic character to begin with, who sees the man who murdered his child winning the war of the super-villains, the issue is drowning in self-pity and melancholy. To top it off we even get discussion between Kite Man and his dead son about what a humongous joke the character is. Jeesh.

Harley Quinn and Batman #2

Harley Quinn and Batman #2 comic review

The misadventures of Harley Quinn continue in this second issue. After being saved from the Dynamic Duo by Poison Ivy, Harley helps her gal pal with her latest plant-inspired scheme. To do so however, she’ll need Harley’s help in financing the plan. And Harley knows just where to get the money (which will bring in another major character from Batman: The Animated Series – albeit in her far-less interesting redesigned look).
