A tie-in issue to The Death of Doctor Strange ongoing Marvel story arc, The Death of Doctor Strange: X-Men/Black Knight is more an issue to flesh-out Jacks Chopra than anything else as both daughter and father work out their trust issues in the middle of a battle against demons.

Doctor Strange is dead and the mystical barriers he had erected to keep Earth safe have fallen. London (and the X-Men) have been swallowed up and Jackie joins the fray. Unfortunately, the X-Men have all been turned into demons by Necromon the Netherking and Jacks is out to prove she doesn’t need any help to save the day. On the plus side, some back up does arrive in Excalibur’s wielder Faiza Hussain whose prescience does allow Dane to come up with a ridiculous plan based on the visions of Merlin he sees from the Ebony Thone.

Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #5

Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #5 comic reviewBlack Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #5 wraps up the Mordred arc with not one but two resurrections as the villain is thwarted with using the Ebony Crown to take control of the world. Although dead for most of the issue, Dane Whitman plays a large role as his dying declaration helps pave the way to the arc’s conclusion and the creation of a new Black Knight.

The reveal of Jackie Chopra‘s lineage is well-handled here as she steps up to help take down the villain and then earn a place at her father’s side as the pair will attempt to share the mantle of the Ebony Blade. I’m not sure how exactly that’s going to work, but I’m guessing various Marvel teams can choose which one they want in a comic from here out.

Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #4

Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #4 comic reviewBlack Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #4 isn’t a great issue for our heroes. Dane Whitman finds himself haunted by visions shown to him by the Ebony Chalice and finishes the issue slowing bleeding out on the floor. Jackie Chopra dies a rather gruesome death. And Elsa Bloodstone abandons the fight when Mordred buys her off with the bobble she came for.

Speaking of Mordred, his plan comes together quite nicely as he captures the Ebony Blade and then smelts some of the other Ebony items into an Ebony Crown as he reveals his plans to assume the throne his father kept from him.

Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #3

Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade #3 comic reviewDane Whitman embarks on a quest with Elsa Bloodstone and Jackie Chopra to find the other Ebony items. With the Ebony Dagger and Ebony Shield already in Mordred‘s possession, it’s a race to see who will be the first to claim the Ebony Chalice.

The search leads to faceoff in the Wastelands between our heroes and Modred and his minions. Jacike also learns some history about Sir Percy, the amount of power he wielded, and how it nearly destroyed him. We’re given a flashback to a Black Knight and Thor encounter where not only does Percy best the God of Thunder but unleashes his rage on all of the Odinson’s companions. The power boost we’re seeing for the character here suggests the MCU may have plans to make Black Knight their new heavy-hitter.
