Charlie’s Angels

Charlie’s Angels #2

Charlie's Angels #2 comic reviewThe comic’s opening arc continues with Charlie being attacked and abducted by the mysterious foreign agents who use the man’s anonymity against the Angels by supplying just the right amount of disinformation to trick the trio into unintentionally helping out their interests. While their endgame is still unclear, we now see how they plan to toy with our detectives.

While I’m still a bit unsure of throwing Jill, Kelly, and Sabrina into the the world of international spies and nuclear secrets, the second issue shows off the trio’s skills while also showing how easily they can be manipulated through Charlie. The question is, now that the ladies know something is wrong, what will they do next?

Charlie's Angels - Pilot television review

Today’s Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the tale of three beautiful former police detectives turned private detectives working for a faceless boss known as Charlie. The show’s “Pilot” sends the Angels to the California wine country to investigate the apparent death of a winery’s missing owner. The episode features not one but two Angels taking on the persona of the victim’s long lost daughter as both Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) and Sabrina (Kate Jackson) play the role of the missing heir in order to catch the killer. Poor Jill (Farrah Fawcett) gets the less meaty roles of secretary and swampland hick that help sell various aspects of the con.

“Once upon a time there were three little girls who went to the police academy…”

Charlie's Angels #1 comic reviewThe classic TV-show Charlie’s Angels gets new life as a comic. Dynamite Entertainment’s new series keeps the Angels in the 1970s, and opens with the trio working undercover in the Limbo Lounge to overhear a meeting between a skeezy crook forcing his way into the profitable night club and his equally sleazy guest.

Hired by the clubs original owner, the Angels are looking for evidence to push the criminal element out of the Limbo Lounge. All hell breaks loose during Sabrina‘s magic act, but it turns out to be all part of the plan. Of course no Angels plan is complete with a few wrinkles and some quick thinking to get their client out of a jam. However, there looks to be more trouble for our heroines on the horizon in the form of two foreign agents with dastardly plans.

Charlie’s Angels – Angel With a Broken Wing

charlies-angels-tv-rebootWow, did that suck. I wasn’t expecting much from the reboot of the late 70’s show focused on three women working as private eyes for a mysterious unseen benefactor, but in the very least I expected it to be dumb fun.The original wasn’t Shakespeare but at least if felt competent. Sadly, neither of those words can be used to describe this version.

“Angel With a Broken Wing” may be one of the worst pilot episodes I’ve ever watched. The writing and dialogue is one step away from intentionally bad (and yet still painfully unfunny). And don’t even get me started on the acting. These young women might be able to act (hey, anything is possible) if given better material but I have a feeling we’ll never know (at least as long as this show stays on the air).
