Dave – Wisconsin

Okay, the middle of a show’s third season may seem a weird place to jump in for the first time but you announce Chloe Bennett as a guest-star and my attention is piqued. Bennett guest-stars as a local photographer who Dave (Dave Burd) immediately falls for when the tour hits Wisconsin. And the attraction is mutual, despite Dave’s various neuroses. The other storyline involves Ally (Taylor Misiak) joining the tour fresh out of her failed relationship and looking for some revenge sex with an old friend that’s had a crush on her for more than a decade.

Abominable and the Invisible City – Chinese Nian Year

  • Title: Abominable and the Invisible City – Chinese Nian Year (Part 1 & Part 2)
  • IMDb: link / link

The two-part First Season finale centers around Chinese New Year. While “Part 1” teases magical creatures being kidnapped around the city, ending with the abduction of Everest, the first-half of the story is more about the various characters perusing their own interests. Yi (Chloe Bennet) obsesses with an upcoming musical performance and Jin (Tenzing Norgay Trainor) is distracted by a minor role in the parade. With no one else to join them, and believing the festival will hide the look of yeti, Peng (Ethan Loh) takes Everest on an eating tour through the city which eventually leads to the others searching for the pair only to find them as they are taken by Nian.

Abominable and the Invisible City – Yeti Superstitious

The Peng (Ethan Loh) centric “Yeti Superstitious” centers around Peng taking Nai Nai‘s (Karen Huie) superstitions to heart in attempts to avoid bad luck and to make the basketball team. While his unpredictable behavior offers some initial success, the more he attempts to follow Nai Nai’s wisdom, which includes pushing and Jin (Tenzing Norgay Trainor) away for their incompatible birth signs, the more disastrous things get. However, with the help of his friends and the Minticons, Peng learns to get over his fears in a nice lesson for the show’s younger audience.

Abominable and the Invisible City – A Cabbage Kinda Day

  • Title: Abominable and the Invisible City – A Cabbage Kinda Day
  • IMDb: link

Following up one the weakest episode of the show’s First Season, “A Cabbage Kind of Day” puts the focus back on Yi (Chloe Bennet) who takes on more responsibility than she can handle in a single day including dealing with one of the babies from the previous episode found still lurking around the rooftop for Jin (Tenzing Norgay Trainor) and Peng (Ethan Loh) to look after. We also get a bit of a jealous older-brother vibe from Everest who doesn’t like the attention the baby is getting from his friends. Certainly better than “Jin’s New Look,” the episode also features some nice morals for its younger viewers touching on asking for help, jealousy, and finding balance in your life.

Abominable and the Invisible City – Jin’s New Look

  • Title: Abominable and the Invisible City – Jin’s New Look
  • IMDb: link

The title of the episode references both the white doctor’s coat delivered to Jin‘s (Tenzing Norgay Trainor) and his new view on life after the end of the episode choosing to stay with a magical creature (whose saliva can turn thing invisible) in need rather than attend a ceremony for his pre-medical program. While there’s a nice message there, and Peng (Ethan Loh) finds a moment to stand-up to both Jin and Yi (Chloe Bennet) who both get distracted (Jin by his coat, and later being turned invisbile, and Yi from the creature not appreciating her music), “Jin’s New Look” is the weakest episode of the series so far.
