Cleopatra in Space - Do-Over

Cleopatra (Lilimar) gets stuck in a shortening time loop in “Do-Over” as she attempts to get events of a stressful day right (and fail miserably each time). There are episodes of the series where Cleopatra embraces her new future home and those where the homesick girl attempts to run from it, “Do-Over” is the latter as her attempts to return home using a time machine still being built lead her to reliving the same day over and over (and struggling to make any meaningful changes). The final time through, Cleo does break the loop and seems to learn some lessons about the trouble she causes her friends (although we’ll see if those stick around longer than a single episode).

Cleopatra in Space - Akila Says No television review

There’s a simple premise to “Akila Says No” as Cleopatra (Lilimar) and Brian (Jorge Diaz) try to convince the always agreeable Akila (Katie Crown) it’s sometimes okay to say no. From time-consuming chores to a trip barter with space scavengers, it’s a chore to get their friend to finally refuse to do something (a lesson she learns which backfires on the group after making it safely away from the scavengers). The episode’s epilogue is also notable for introducing Cleo to Pharoh Yosira, foreshadowing more interacts to come.

Cleopatra in Space - Surprise! TV review

The second episode of the series, “Surprise!” serves two purposes. The first is to introduce audiences to P.Y.R.A.M.I.D. and the second is to get Cleopatra (Lilimar) more comfortable with her futuristic surroundings ending with a surprise birthday party for Cleo by Akila (Katie Crown) and Brian (Jorge Diaz). The episode introduces several new characters including the rebellious Zaid Antonius (Xolo Maridueña), the rival Callie (Kari Wahlgren), and fellow students Dennis (Dee Bradley Baker) and E’Geke-Ek’Gek (Alex Cazares). Although Cleo feels lost for most of the episode (in part by Akila’s surprise party plans), things end well for the time-displaced princess who takes down another assassin at her party, makes some new friends, and gets a new toy in the Sphinx Anti-Gravity Bike.

Cleopatra in Space - Wednesday television review

Based off Mike Maihack‘s comic series, the first episode of Cleopatra in Space introduces us the Egyptian princess Cleopatra (Lilimar) who gets sucked through a time portal and finds herself 30,000 years in the future. “Wednesday” offers a solid opener with the introduction of Cleopatra as the rambunctious and fearless teen heroine. With half the episode taking place in ancient Egypt, we don’t get as big a glimpse at her new surroundings other than meeting two friends in the alien Akila (Katie Crown) and the cyborg Brian (Jorge Diaz) as well as the talking cat Khensu (Sendhil Ramamurthy) who always believed Cleo was destined to arrive from the past and help save the Nile Galaxy from the villain Octavian (Jonathan Kite) whose evil robots Cleo encounters for the first time. The exploration of our hero’s surroundings, P.Y.R.A.M.I.D. (where Cleopatra will learn how to save the galaxy), and more about Octavian will have to wait for future episodes.
