Once Upon a Time - Labor of Love

While stumbling around a very Storybooke-esque version of the Underworld in their search for Hook (Colin O’Donoghue), who is now a captive of Hades (Greg Germann) and being guarded by the three-headed Cerberus, Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) will seek out the help of an old friend who has unfinished business with the creature. Offering us flashbacks to the young Snow’s (Bailee Madison) first encounter with Hercules (Jonathan Whitesell) we see the crucial role the demigod performed in putting the young princess on a path to becoming a hero – a service Snow reciprocates here by helping the fallen warrior complete his final labor and move on to Olympus.

“Wingman” is comprised of two separate stories. The episode gets its name from the investigation into the theft of Lucifer‘s (Tom Ellis) wings, but a large portion of the episode is devoted to Detective Decker‘s (Lauren German) ongoing investigation into a dirty cop at death’s door. With the help of both Decker and Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside), Lucifer eventually tracks down his wings to the owner of a shady black market who sells religious artifacts at private auctions. Meanwhile, working on something Lucifer said, Decker works alongside Dan (Kevin Alejandro) to make her first big break in the case that has made her a pariah within her own department.

Detective Decker‘s (Lauren German) investigation into the theft of a cargo container holds little interest for Lucifer (Tom Ellis) until he discovers it is his property which has gone missing. While evading questions about what was stolen (the truth of which we will only learn in the final scene where the container, but not its precious cargo, is recovered), Lucifer begins his first case as an official consultant for the LAPD. The mystery of Lucifer’s “stuff” is well-handled, as is his growing unease and the return of a more scary and vengeful Devil over the course of the investigation.

Helping solve the case not only gives Lucifer another interesting diversion but its successful conclusion also earns him a role as an official civilian consultant for the LAPD (cementing his unorthodox partnership with Chloe without the struggle of forcing himself onto each case of the week over the remainder of the season).

Lucifer - The Would-Be Prince of Darkness

After a raucous party, where Lucifer (Tom Ellis) learns someone has been impersonating him and ruining his “good” name, Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) arrests a star quarterback for the dead woman who turns up floating in his pool the morning after. Convincing the detective to both consider other suspects, and allow him to help, Lucifer searches for the true guilty party and dispense his punishment. After an attack on the quarterback’s crazy ex-girlfriend (Sofia Vassilieva) the two storylines combine as Lucifer “improves” the police sting by hiring the leading suspect in the murder case, a fixer named Ronnie (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe), to find his impersonator and incriminate herself at the same time.
