The Flash - Time Bomb television review

Team Flash may have defeated one Cicada (Chris Klein), but a new one has arrived from the future to continue her uncle’s work. “Time Bomb” reveals the new meta-human killer to be Grace Gibbons (Sarah Carter) who has a lifetime of hatred boiling inside her, and her first target is the meta-human (Catherine Lough Haggquist) responsible for her parents’ death. I’ve always like Carter, and her casting helps lessen the disappointing blow that the Cicada storyline is going to continue further into the season after it had apparently finally reached a merciful end. However, the episode’s subplot involving Sherloque Wells‘ (Tom Cavanagh) unraveling Nora‘s (Jessica Parker Kennedy) secret thankfully looks to take precedence for at least the short term.

The Flash - King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd television review

The idea behind “King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd” turns out to be more interesting than the execution, but that’s not to say the latest episode of The Flash doesn’t make the most of the scenes between Grodd and King Shark battling it out in the middle of Central City. The episode starts with Cisco (Carlos Valdes) having created a version of a meta-human cure and the team looking for a willing trial subject to test it on (the fact that Cisco is unwilling to test it on himself, as he still appears to want to rid himself of his vibes, but is willing to use someone else as his guinea pig feels a bit cowardly… but okay). For the team’s subject they choose King Shark who Dr. Tanya Lamden (Zibby Allen) has worked with to regain more of his humanity. However, the device Lamden has been using is stolen by Grodd to enhance his own mental powers and force the entire city under his control.

The Flash - Cause and XS television review

In “Cause and XS” The Flash revisits the idea of timeloops and altering the past. For one hour Barry (Grant Gustin) enters the Speed Force in order to speed up Cisco‘s (Carlos Valdes) meta-human cure. However, this leaves the rest of the team vulnerable to Cicada‘s (Chris Klein) attack. Despite doing her best, Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) watches someone close to her stabbed to death with the super-villain’s dagger no matter what changes she attempts to make to events by traveling back an hour to set things right. Only Cisco’s minor vibes clue him in that something odd is going on as the episode offers a few different awkward first dates with Kamilla (Victoria Park) in the sequences set to provide the lighter moments in contrast to the large amount of death Nora is incapable of stopping.

The Flash - Seeing Red television review

After laying low, Cicada (Chris Klein) returns with a vengeance by killing multiple meta-humans in one night. Hoping to remove those who the serial killer plans to target next, Barry (Grant Gustin) and the group round up the group of metas provided to Cicada by a member of the Central City Police Force (while Cecille goes after the leak in the police department). I’ve never been a huge fan of vengeful Barry Allen. I think the character works best as hopeful and striving to use his powers to make the world a better place (while fighting talking gorillas and guys throwing boomerangs at him). However, after Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) is seriously injured by Cicada and is slow to heal, Barry’s father instincts go into overdrive and nearly push the flash into eliminating the threat of Cicada permanently. Thankfully, Nora is fully recovered by the end of the episode ending the Flash’s murderous streak before it claims its first victim.

The Flash - The Flash & The Furious television review

With a couple of notable exceptions, the supporting cast takes center stage in “The Flash & The Furious” when the Flash (Grant Gustin) is sidelined by a new meta-human and forced to remain in the pipeline until his instability issues work themselves out. This allows Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) to step into the role of Central City’s hero while dealing with her own issues after learning that her future mentor, and known Flash-adversary, the Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh) is responsible for the death of her grandmother. Her new distrust of evil-doers pushes the repentant Weather Witch (Reina Hardesty) into the arms of the dangerous Silver Ghost (Gabrielle Walsh) whose black matter infuse key fob basically gives her control of any vehicle she wishes (including a stealth car developed by Wayne Industries).
