The Flash #282

Throwback Tuesday takes back to late 1979 to one of the first comics I ever owned featuring not one but two of my favorite comic heroes of all time. Set after the events of Iris West-Allen‘s death, The Flash #282 opens with the Flash escaping a death trap from the Reverse-Flash before sending the Scarlet Speedster on a wild goose chase in the future so his arch-nemesis can impersonate the Flash for his own purposes.

Centering around Superman’s (John Krasinski) super-dog Krypto (Dwayne Johnson) learning to accept his owner’s affection for Lois Lane (Olivia Wilde) and discover how to make his own friends in a group animals (Kevin Hart, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, and Diego Luna) who all become super-powered through a mad guinea pig’s (Kate McKinnon) use of Orange Kryptonite, DC League of Super-Pets offers your basic animated kind of mildly diverting fun with the Justice League being completely unprepared to deal with super-villain animals and the need for our unlikely heroes to unite and form the League of Super-Pets.

While Iris’ (Candice Patton) time sickness bounces her to the future where struggle to find a way to help, that same condition has affected the negative version of the Forces (Sara Garcia, Ennis Esmer, and Christian Magby) who make a trip to Lian Yu to kill Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanagh) and then to S.T.A.R. Labs to kill the younger version (Matt Letscher) as well. In need of more speed, Barry‘s (Grant Gustin) training of Fast Track (Kausar Mohammed) takes a turn when he teaches her how to share her speed with Eobard (a really, really, really bad idea the episode races through without a second thought) leading to the apparent death of a major character and rebirth of another in the cliffhanger ending of “Part One.”

The Flash – Death Falls

“Death Falls” features a big battle between Team Flash and Deathstorm. Team Flash will come out on top, as an enhanced Frost (Danielle Panabaker) proves up to the task to fight off the evil shadow monster that preys on grief and has recently taken on the form of Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell). The episode is structure very much like a Halloween episode (odd for Spring, but whatever) with the evil Deathstorm torturing the various heroes to elicit grief in plans of making Frost’s doppelganger his bride (do evil cloud monsters need brides?).

The Flash – Reckless

  • Title: The Flash – Reckless

While Iris (Candice Patton) remains in Coast City to deal with her “time sickness” (seriously?) and attempt to help Tinya (Mika Abdalla), Team Flash continue to search for the Black Flame (which may or may not have ties to a member of the team’s past). Over objections, the team decides to use Frost (Danielle Panabaker) as bait to lure out the meta with the help of Dr. Carla Tannhauser (Susan Walters) who has been keeping a secret about her own latent metagene. Other than exploring the theme that Frost tends to be the most reckless member of her family, the episode is your typical mid-season forgettable fare where Team Flash’s plans end up with mixed results.
