G.I. JOE

G.I. JOE #13

G.I. JOE #13 kicks off a new arc that, despite being set in a shared universe with the Transformers, feels very much like a classic G.I. JOE story. Much like in the original G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero cartoon, Cobra Commander sends Cobra forces across the globe in search of resources for his plans (which in this case are Energon). No doubt we’ll see plenty of action with Joes showing up in the various locations as well. As the Commander, who takes the most interesting location for himself, things are about to get interesting.

Cold Slither #1

Presented as something akin to VH1’s Beyond the Music, the new Cold Slither one-shot examines the history of the band Cold Slither (as introduced in the G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero TV episode of the same name) in which Zartan and the Dreadnoks become the front men for a band with hidden subliminal messages within the music. We then learn that years later that same music hit streaming and spread like wildfire giving Cobra control of the world. But what of the band?

G.I. JOE #9

While checking in on other ongoing threads such as Destro doing research into the Decepticons behind the back of Cobra Commander and Clutch hiding Hound in the Joe’s compound, the majority of G.I. JOE #9 focuses on the adventures of the Baroness and Cover Girl in Paris. After coming to an understanding, the pair are rudely interrupted by Raptor and then Major Bludd. Although holding their own for a time, the pair eventually become the prisoners of Bludd who looks to gets some revenge on Baroness by attempting to pit her and Cover Girl against each other leading to a shocking final panel (which no doubt is part of a larger plan of Cover Girl to help lead to their escape).

G.I. JOE #8

Following a bit of training within the Pit, the Baroness demands a bit of R&R and some time away from the repetitive drills. Duke, reluctantly agrees on the condition she’s back in 48  hours and that Cover Girl, goes with her. The issue allows for the pair to spend some time together, first on the Baroness’ private jet and later on a cafe in Paris (between which she unsuccessfully attempts to lose the Joe  for some time alone). There’s not much action in the issue, but its memorable with the Joes hunting the Baroness at the beginning of the issue (which plays on the reader’s expectation that the woman will, at some point, go bad), and the two women being attacked by a flock of birds which reintroduces the character of Raptor into the Energon Universe.

G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero – Silent Missions (Spirit)

Honoring the original “Silent Interlude” issue from G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #21 from 1984, Image and Skybound are putting together a series of silent issue one-shots featuring different characters. G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero – Spirit #1 features Spirit and Freedom looking into mysterious disappearances in the forest which lead them to a Cobra (possibly Revanche?) factory in a cleared area in the middle of the woods.
