Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #16

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #16 comic reviewHal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #16 is a headscratcher. While it certainly delivers Guy Gardner being Guy for his fans, the entire issue is little more than filler. Having rescued Saint Walker, Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner return to Mogo only to find John Stewart and Guy gone. This leaves their story to wilt on the vine while the comic looks elsewhere for plot.

The idea of Green and Yellow Lanterns working together to begin bringing in Sinestro Corps stragglers is largely dealt with in a single montage. The only example we see see expanded is Guy, heading out without his ring, picking a fist fight with Arkillo. It’s a bloody, brutal sequence inter-cut with scenes from a young Gardner’s experience with an abusive father. While the extended sequence isn’t without merit in showcasing what is happening behind Guy’s constant posturing, it’s allowed to go on far too long indulging writer Robert Venditti and artist Rafa Sandoval at the cost of further expanding the arc’s plot.

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #14

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #14Leaving John Stewart to work out the logistics of how to get the Green Lantern Corps to work with the Sinestro Corps going forward by pairing Lanterns up and sending them after missing members of the Sinestro Corps, Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner head out on a mission of their own.

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #14 gives each of the characters their own moments. For Guy Gardner this means tracking down an old snitch for valuable intelligence on where to look for the missing Lanterns. For Stewart that means leading the unsteady new enterprise of combining former enemies as partners. And for Jordan and Rayner that means working together to seek out the missing Saint Walker who it seems will also have a role to play in the new version of the Green Lantern Corps. However, first they pair will have to rescue the imprisoned Blue Lantern.

Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps #12 comic review

“Bottled Light” comes to a close with Hal Jordan (yah!) and Kyle Rayner (ugh!) showing up in time to help the freed Green Lantern Corps and Sinestro Corps fight their jailers Larfleeze and Brainiac. The arc finale has plenty of action as well as some shock for Guy Gardner and the gang at the arrival of their old friends.

Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps #10

Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps #10 comic reviewYou just can’t keep a good man down. Hal Jordan‘s latest death doesn’t stop the Green Lantern for long (even if his return does mean an appearance by my least-favorite Green Lantern). With the help of Kyle Rayner, the pair of remaining Guardians of the Universe help Hal find his way home and out of the Emerald Space where he’s greeted by long-lost friends such as Tomar-Re and Katma Tui.

I’ve been blissfully happy that the comic has had no Kyle in it so far, but the new White Lantern is put to good use here helping Hal find his way back to life through the ring he forged. It’s a good thing he’s back, because the rest of the Corps is in dire need of his help.
