Usually the Leverage team picks their marks carefully and makes plans to take them down. However, every so often, the stumble upon a situation that needs resolving. This is the case in the awkwardly-titled “The Shakedown in the Clone-Town Job” in which Eliot (Christian Kane),  Sophie (Gina Bellman), and Parker (Beth Riesgraf) target a small-town mayor (Cedric Yarbrough) whose grift is destroying the town. When the con on the fly fails, the group resorts to turning the mayor’s allies against him and opening a window for the people of the town to step-in and fight for their homes.

The most interesting aspect of “The Swipe Right Job” is how the case comes to the team when a smooth grifter (Maulik Pancholy) attempts to con Sophie (Gina Bellman) not realizing who she is. Turning the tables on man and his sister (Annet Mahendru) who have swindled countless marks out of thousands of dollars, the team creates a new victim for them in Harry (Noah Wyle) who does so well the con man actually falls for him. It’s primarily a Harry episode, complete with an awkward misunderstanding when his daughter (Auden Wyle) sees him on the con, while Sophie gets the next largest piece of the pie and the rest of the team are really relegated to support. The romance episode also pushes the idea of a Sophie and Harry pairing, which seems quite likely by the end of the episode.

The return of the reboot’s first villain, Alexandra Bligh (Lucy Taylor), offers the opportunity for an all-girls episode with the team stretched across the globe. The fact that the team is never stretched this thin, with everyone working separately, is simply a conceit you’ll have to allow in order for events to play out. After kidnapping Sophie (Gina Bellman), Bligh pits nemeses Parker (Beth Riesgraf) and Astrid (Alexandra Park) against each other commanding one to steal a priceless treasure on display and the other to prevent the theft. The costume ball, in honor of the displays of Marie Antoinette, prevents the pair from running into each other for most of the episode until they finally do in the vault leading to the confrontation Bligh has been hoping for.
