There are a few different pieces all working simultaneously in “The Case of the Creeping Forest.” While the regretful Niko (Yuyu Kitamura) attempts to repair the damage she unintentionally did to Jenny (Briana Cuoco) with a blind date that ended in death, the detectives are brought a new case by Monty (Joshua Colley) unaware they are walking into the witch’s trap. Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (Jayden Revri) are also unaware that Crystal (Kassius Nelson), in an attempt to break David‘s (David Iacono) influence over her, has used a magic artifact that seems to have taken away her powers.

Taking the case of a couple of recently murdered local jocks, Edwin (George Rexstrew), Charles (Jayden Revri), and Crystal (Kassius Nelson) soon discover that, despite the nice words other students at the school had for them, there were many with motive for wanting them dead including the ghost the raise of the girl (Sarah Desjardins) they drove to suicide and the latest victim (Mya Lowe) of their cruelty. The B-story starts out sweet with Niko (Yuyu Kitamura) playing matchmaker with the reluctant Jenny (Briana Cuoco), pushing her on a date with her secret admirer (Lindsey Gort). The date goes fantastic until it goes completely, utterly, murderously wrong leading to the creation of a new ghost in the town.

For their latest case, the detectives investigate a number of people who willingly are jumping to their deaths into the sea from the local lighthouse. Playing on the ideas of a siren’s call, albeit one with a more unusual creature revealed a the end, offers an unusual setup that is quite effective, especially after Crystal (Kassius Nelson)  becomes attracted to the call. The town’s reluctance to acknowledge the supernatural, including the local police, as illustrated in no one believing the eye witness of multiple people seeing a suicide helps explain how so much wacky stuff can go down without anyone giving it any mind.

After getting multiple offers from the town’s ghost population, Edwin (George Rexstrew), Charles (Jayden Revri), and Crystal (Kassius Nelson) decide to investigate a haunted house where a family (Hannah Bos, Christine Chatelain, Jason Deline, and Audrey Mallett) has been stuck in the loop of their murders since the 80s. The loop, and the struggle to find its trigger, offers an intriguing mystery and a nice mix of macabre humor and horror for the investigators (especially after Charles’ recklessness gets him trapped in the loop as well).
