Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eleven #10

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eleven #10 comic reviewOn the run and seeking proof about what the United States Government is really up to concerning internment of magical creatures, Buffy and the Scoobies break into a secret facility where they discover all manner of odd experiments created from a mix of science and magic including a cyborg octopus. Realizing government scientists are draining magic and imbuing their own creations with them, the Scoobies seek out more answers… by kidnapping the Vice President of the United States.

While this issue doesn’t reveal the person behind the strange government experiments it does feature plenty of action and put a ticking clock on our heroes to fight the good fight. With satellites ready to go into orbit to drain the magical powers of everyone within the borders of the United States (as a start), it’s time for action.

Shadowhunters - Beside Still Water television review

Shadowhunters closes its Third Season by wrapping up the Valentine (Alan Van Sprang) storyline, laying the foundation for multiple conflicts next season, reigniting old passions, and (temporarily) killing a major character. Armed with the Mortal Cup and the Mortal Sword, Valentine travels to Lake Lynn to complete his master plan. The villain is successful in raising the angel Raziel, but he won’t live long enough to see his dream of a world without Downworlders come to fruition when he’s cut down by his daughter (rather easily concerning how easily he was throwing her around like a rag doll only minutes before) who uses the one wish granted by the angel to restore Jace (Dominic Sherwood) to life.

Shadowhunters - Hail and Farewell television review

“Hail and Farewell” sets up next week’s season finale and a confrontation between Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and Valentine (Alan Van Sprang). Before that happens, however, the Shadowhunters will square off against Jonathan (Will Tudor) and the truce between the Shadowhunters and the Downworlders will crumble as the vampires, mages, and werewolves choose to stand with the Seelie Queen (recast as Sarah Hyland, suggesting a much larger role for the character next season) and her plan to go after Valentine themselves rather than continue to rely on the Shadowhunters.

Realizing Valentine‘s (Alan Van Sprang) plan, Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Jace (Dominic Sherwood) search for the Mortal Mirror with the help of Dot (Vanessa Matsui) who has become its protector following the death of its last guardian. It turns out the item is way easier to find than the other Mortal Instruments Clary has searched for since joining the Shadowhunters. Clary is conflicted by the mission. Despite seeing what her brother is capable of, but still unaware he’s walking around as Sebastian (Will Tudor), she hopes to save him and resents Jace for seeing the need to put him down.

Castlevania - Necropolis TV review

Okay, I’m rooting for the vampire. The first episode of Netflix’s Castlevania introduced us to Dracula (Graham McTavish), his wife (Emily Swallow), and the series of events which would lead the vampire to declare war on all humanity. “Necropolis” introduces us to our reluctant hero Trevor Belmont (Richard Armitage) who spends most of the season’s second episode fighting in bars and alleyways. Forced out of his drunken stupor first to defend himself and later to protect an old man from murderous priests, Belmont hardly earns any sympathy from us and really only looks somewhat heroic when compared to Dracula’s murderous army and the religious zealots which directly caused them to be unleashed on the world. I’m sure glad this season is only four episodes long as I don’t think I could stand spending much more time with Trevor Belmont. And, yeah, I’m rooting for the vampire.
