There are two plotlines at play in “Druz’ya I Vragi” involving the kidnapping of Czech president Alena Kovac (Nina Hoss) by her bodyguard Radek (Adam Vacula) and Jack (John Krasinski) leading a small team in the search of the not-so-abandoned Sokol facility for the nuclear weapon (which he discovers has been fashioned to look like an American warhead). Both plots provide action with Jack’s team shooting their way in and out of the facility, but failing to get their hands on the device, and Radek and Petr (Peter Guinness) hunting each other in the woods leading to Alena finally learning, and accepting, some harsh truths about her father.

Jack Ryan – Our Death’s Keeper

While the other plots mainly spin their wheels (except for the end scene of the episode involving the kidnapping of an important figure), “Our Death’s Keeper” is most notable for Jack (John Krasinski) and Mike (Michael Kelly) gaslighting an arm’s dealer in Budapest in order to push him into revealing where the exchange of the Sokol device will take place. There are several fun segments along the way with the pair slowly turning the heat on the man until finally springing their trap. Elsewhere, Greer’s  (Wendell Pierce) digging leads to suspicions about Petr Kovac (Peter Guinness) and Wright (Betty Gabriel) is put in an uncomfortable position of how far she can stick her neck out to protect Jack.

The Jack Ryan (John Krasinski) on the run storyline continues with Jack and Mike (Michael Kelly) tracing the information on Sokol back to its surprising source whose experience adds weight to the fact that Sokol is real but whose position isn’t likely to be accepted by the West. Greer (Wendell Pierce) continues to investigate the assassination and makes a discovery about a larger threat which helps confirm Jack’s information about Sokol. The episode also makes quick end of the Russian super soldier after Jack which the show had built up over two episodes.

Jack Ryan – Old Haunts

Jack (John Krasinski) relies on the help of a couple of old friends while on the run from the CIA, local police, and Russian Intelligence. There’s not yet a plan of action for Jack as the second episode into the season is simply staying one-step ahead of pursuers, something which Tony (Numan Acar) helps him with giving Jack time to later sneak out of the country with Mike (Michael Kelly). Elsewhere we also get Russian politics, the squeeze of the Czech Republic, and a bit of the odd pairing of Greer (Wendell Pierce) and (Betty Gabriel) looking for Jack but, like the Russians, ultimately going home empty-handed. The second episode is also notable for an expected tease suggesting the identity of the source of Jack’s intelligence. A solid episode that keeps its tension high before moving Jack on to set up the next stage of the season.

Jack Ryan’s (John Krasinski) big brain gets him into more trouble in the first episode of the show’s Third Season which centers around a defunct Soviet weapons plan to expand the USSR to the Rhine. Part of that plan involved the Sokol Project, an untraceable prototype Soviet nuclear tactical weapon, the manufacturing of was shut down with extreme prejudice decades ago but has been pulled out of mothballs. Heading out into the field with a small unit to find proof of his hunch, Jack will end up running for his life with the realization that the 50 year-old Soviet plan has already been put into motion and he has no idea who he can trust.
