Writer/director BenDavid Grabinski‘s Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice is a crime comedy with a sci-fi twist. The person who framed him is Mike’s longtime partner in crime Nick (Vince Vaughn) whose wife Alice (Eiza González) Mike has been sleeping with. However, there is some good news as someone has arrived to help save Mike. The problem? It’s also Nick.

Adding a bit of pathos and depth to the franchise with the addition of Shadow (Keanu Reeves), Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is easily the best film of the franchise. A large chunk of the film is dedicated to revealing the tortured origins and motives of the games’ famous antihero consumed with vengeance following his escape from the G.U.N. prison facility where he’s been kept in suspended animation for the last 50 years. Reeves turns out to be a great choice to voice the character whose less murdery side is shown in a series of flashbacks highlighting his friendship with Maria Robotnik (Alyla Browne) which ended in tragedy prior to his incarceration.

The follow-up to 2007’s Enchanted is the kind of middling Disney sequel you often expect from the studio outside of its Pixar theatrical properties. Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey return as Gisele and Robert moving to the suburbs with teen daughter Morgan (now played by Gabriella Baldacchino) and baby Sofia. Despite her hopes of finding a magical new start in the suburbs, the family struggles in their new home leading to Gisele to make a wish turning the entire town into a fairy tale.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 offers your typical sequel with the return of all the core characters, a larger budget, more special effects, and the addition of new characters. The results are largely the same. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is likely to keep the attention of younger audiences, although the biggest audible pop in the screening I attended came during the mid-credit sequence, but other than the pretty visuals and the occasional fun action sequence there’s not much here for the rest of us for a film that clocks in at over two hours.

Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) returns seeking vengeance and power. With him this time is Knuckles (Idris Elba) in search of an ancient power known as the Master Emerald hidden by Sonic’s mentor Longclaw (Donna Jay Fulks). Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie (Tika Sumpter) return to help Sonic who also gets a new friend in Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) who arrives to help Sonic save the emerald.

The Boss Baby: Family Business movie reviewThe sequel to 2017’s The Boss Baby picks up the story where an adult Tim (James Marsden) and Ted (Alec Baldwin) are recruited back into action by Tim’s baby daughter (Amy Sedaris) to save the world from a villain’s (Jeff Goldblum) evil plot. The story involves the pair getting turned back into the younger versions of themselves from the first film and infiltrating the local school. The film opens with the idea that schools, and learning/growing, are evil, something that it only grudgingly pulls back from. In a world where an entire segment of the population mistakenly cherishes this belief, using a family motion picture to, in any way, promote that idea is criminally negligent.
